  1. Post update

I'm hearing a final whistle being blown, surely for this live text. We'll have post-match reaction, Premiership highlights and more from Saturday's games and a fabulous interview with boxing legend Ken Buchanan on our website between now and 18:00 BST. The highlights from Tannadice will be online at midnight. Many thanks for getting in touch throughout the day and for reading the live text today. Sportsound stays on BBC Radio Scotland and online until 17:00 BST. Enjoy the remainder of your Sunday.

  2. Post update

    Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara

"(The penalty incident) looked outside the box, but it's part and parcel of the game, you just have to accept it. There are good signs that we are moving the right way. The chairman and the board look after the running of the club, I look after the players. Losing four players in six months makes my job harder but my job is to get the club on a sound footing. My focus is on the best interests of the club. There are kids coming on and making their debuts."

  3. Post update

    Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara

"I was pleased with a lot of things in the first half but disappointed to lose the goal so soon at the start of the second half. It's difficult from that point on, they got their tails up. Robbie Muirhead was isolated in the second half but for his first full start against a quality defence I thought he caused them problems. I was pleased for him."

  4. Post update

BBC Scotland football pundit Willie Miller

"If Jason Denayer goes in the summer, Celtic have got to find someone who can come in and play in that position. The quality he has is way beyond his years. They need a central defender. It's a vital area for them, particularly with the way they play with the two central defenders, and two full-backs bombing forward. There is a lot to appeal to him to stay at Celtic but if you are pulling the strings at Celtic you'd be desperate to keep him."

  5. Post update

Hat-trick hero Leigh Griffiths takes the match ball

Leigh Griffiths, Celtic's top scorer this season, takes the match ball from referee Willie Collum after scoring a hat-trick.

  6. Post update

    Celtic manager Ronny Deila

"We have money but we must use money to invest in players that we can improve a lot and sell on."

  7. Post update

    Ronny Deila

Celtic manager Ronny Deila: "The three points were deserved. The first half was poor, no tempo or aggression. Second half was much better so I am very pleased. We have played many matches but we need attitude and aggression in every game. Leigh Griffiths delivered. His contribution is at the top level. United have some good young players. They are good at producing them. They are tough to play against. I haven't seen (the penalty incident). We deserved to win. If that decision was wrong I don't think it made any difference."

  8. Post update

Eight points ahead, Celtic require a maximum of five more points to win the title, but any slip-up by second-placed Aberdeen reduces that target.

  9. Text to 80295

Brian, Glasgow: "I assume those Celtic fans demanding explanation over the ICT handball will be asking the SFA why Brown stayed on the pitch. Only consistent innit."

Anonymous: "How well Ronny has got Tic playing and he is making a mockery of all the deluded folk who laughed at his tactics he brought to the team."

  10. Tweet using #bbcscotfootball

Jamie McGilchrist: "In just four months, Thompson and McNamara have undone 9 years of progression that started under Craig Levein. #bbcscotfootball" Harsh words, Jamie!

  11. Post update

BBC Scotland football pundit Pat Bonner

"Celtic won the midfield battle. When United lost that goal it was all over and I think (the league title race) is all over."

  12. Post update

That loss is a blow to Dundee United's European hopes. They trail third-placed Inverness by six points, both teams having played 33 games. St Johnstone have two points more than United but have played a game more than their Tayside rivals. If Inverness beat Falkirk in the Scottish Cup final, the team placed fourth in the table will go into the Europa League qualifying rounds, so there is much to play for for United.

  13. Post update

Most Dundee United fans have left the stadium by the time Celtic manager Ronny Deila engages in a bit of fist-pumping celebrations with the travelling fans.

  14. FULL-TIME

    Dundee United 0-3 Celtic

It's a comprehensive win for Celtic as Leigh Griffiths' third hat-trick for Celtic secures the points that takes his team a step closer to another Scottish Premiership title.

  15. Post update

Leigh Griffiths tucks away a penalty for Celtic to make it 3-0.

Leigh Griffiths tucks away a penalty for Celtic to make it 3-0.

  16. Post update

We're in to the first of three minutes of added time.

  17. Tweet using #bbcscotfootball

Board67: "Can't wait for the media to desperately pretend that this decision makes up for last week #bbcscotfootball"

  18. Post update

Well, when your eye for goal is in and you're feeling confident, why not have a dig at goal? Leigh Griffiths wastes no time in darting a shot at the United net from 22 yards as he is afforded too much space by the dispirited Terrors. On this occasion, the shot went six inches wide.

  19. Post update

Leigh Griffiths tucks in his second goal

Leigh Griffiths tucks in his second goal for Celtic. United midfielder John Rankin is not holding the ball, despite how it looks in this photo.

  20. GOAL

    Dundee United 0-3 Celtic (Griffiths)

Leigh Griffiths will be taking home the match ball. He strolls up and pings it past Radoslaw Cierzniak for his and Celtic's third goal.

  21. PENALTY

And the same player wins a penalty for Celtic, though TV replays show that Willie Collum has made the wrong decision - the tackle by John Rankin on Mackay-Steven was just outside the area.

  22. HITS THE WOODWORK

Gary Mackay-Steven crashes a left-foot shot off the crossbar. Celtic are hungry for more.

  23. Post update

BBC Scotland football pundit Pat Bonner

"The first half was a good performance from Dundee United. They'd have been disappointed that half time came because they'd be worried they lost their momentum. That's what happened and you get that with young players. That's where they fell down in the second half."

  24. Post update

Here's a response from Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara: Aidan Connolly comes on for Blair Spittal.

  25. Post update

Dundee United knock the ball about in midfield and win a corner when Virgil van Dijk slices Robbie Muirhead's ball into the box high ball out of play. The set-piece, though, comes to nothing for United. What can the Terrors do to salvage something in the final 12 minutes?

  26. Post update

Leigh Griffiths and Celtic captain Scott Brown

Leigh Griffiths, scorer of two goals this afternoon, takes the acclaim of the Celtic fans behind the goal, as skipper Scott Brown comes in to offer his congratulations, one assumes.

  27. Post update

Andi Hamilton on Facebook: "7 meetings this season and you can tell, very dull game, a poor celtic side by all accounts, Lenny would have wrapped up the title weeks ago especially with no Hibs, Hearts and Rangers."

  28. Post update

Stefan Johansen receives treatment after landing awkwardly from a challenge by John Rankin. The Norway international looks to have winded himself and groggily hobbles off to be replaced by Celtic winger James Forrest.

  29. Post update

Just a shade more than 20 minutes left at Tannadice. The Celtic fans are chanting that they are going to win the league.

  30. Post update

Alistair Coote replaces Charlie Telfer for United.

  31. Post update

Efe Ambrose comes on for Celtic team-mate Adam Matthews.

  32. GOAL

    Dundee United 0-2 Celtic (Griffiths)

Goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak is, eventually, beaten for a second time this afternoon as Leigh Griffiths turns the ball over the line from close range, after Virgil van Dijk, competing in the air with United's Callum Morris, heads an effort off the post.

  33. Post update

BBC Scotland football pundit Pat Bonner

"Dundee United just don't look as if they are the same team they were in the first half."

  34. Post update

Ronny Deila makes a change to his Celtic team: Gary Mackay-Steven replaces another former United player, Stuart Armstrong, a switch that will induce boak in the gullet of some fans of the men in tangerine.

  35. Post update

The visiting fans rub their hands as Virgil van Dijk lines up a free-kick from 25 yards. The Dutch defender has been pinging them into the top corner of goals around the country of late but this time he tries a low shot...which evades the wall and slips past the United keeper's right-hand post.

  36. Post update

Celtic are enjoying themselves in the Tayside sunshine as Stefan Johansen, in a central position 20 yards out, applies the finishing touch to a move down the right, only for the impressive Radoslaw Cierzniak to make a good save to his right.

  37. Post update

Kris Commons pivots on his right foot to power a left-foot shot low at the United goal but the home keeper is down quickly to smother it. United are not finished in this game, though. Their appetite for attack is far from sated.

  38. Text to 80295

John the Arab from Tayport: "Scott Brown should have been sent off. It was a shocking tackle on John Rankin, his studs were up. It's a total disgrace. "

  39. GREAT SAVE!

Stefan Johansen clips in the type of cross you dream about - using the outside of his left boot from the right touchline - and it lands on the bonce of the on-rushing Kris Commons who got in ahead of Ryan McGowan to power a header towards the top corner of the net. However, there was Radoslaw Cierzniak to leap to save Celtic going two ahead.

  40. Post update

United are trying to get a grip on the match again but Celtic have their tails up and are showing a hunger to clinch these three points as they home in on the title.

  41. Post update

That was Griffiths's 16th goal of the season. Not a bad return.

  42. GOAL

    Dundee United 0-1 Celtic (Griffiths)

Stuart Armstrong works the ball across to Scott Brown on the edge of the United box and the Celtic captain lays the ball off to Stefan Johansen who, showing the touch and vision that has won admirers this season, rolls the ball to Leigh Griffiths on the right side of the box and he arrows a shot across Radoslaw Cierzniak and into the net at the Shed End.

  43. KICK-OFF

And we have a second half now being played...

  44. Post update

    Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner

"I thought Dundee United got a lot of good blocks in. Celtic have got in down the left a few times but down the right they haven't done anything. (Full-back) Adam Matthews has been up the pitch maybe only once. Celtic's passing was poor. The groundsmen are watering the pitch now so the ball should move around better. Celtic's tempo and movement has to increase."

  45. Post update

Celtic's Kris Commons tussles for possession with John Souttar

Celtic's Kris Commons has been busy taking his team's corner kicks and free-kicks and has had the occasional shot at goal but has been well watched by the likes of John Souttar sitting in front of United's two central defenders.

  46. Post update

Scott Brown takes his punishment from Willie Collum

Celtic skipper Scott Brown takes his punishment from referee Willie Collum after a challenge on John Rankin, a tackle BBC Radio Scotland pundit Willie Miller argues would have been applauded in his playing days with Aberdeen.

  47. Post update

David Mowat on Facebook: "You wonder how attractive the prospect of European Football would be to United, with qualifying games as early as June against a Fish Factory team from the Lofoten Islands or the like?"

  48. Post update

Well, no goals in the opening 45 minutes but there was entertainment aplenty, albeit seldom resulting in a shot on goal. The best moment of the half was Robbie Muirhead's cracking shot that was tipped over by Celtic goalie Craig Gordon.

  49. Tweet using #bbcscotfootball

Brian MacNaughton: "#bbcscotfootball Brown and Izaguirre are the two most overrated players in the SPL."

  50. HALF-TIME

    Dundee United 0-0 Celtic

  51. Post update

Chris Erskine tries his best to get clear of the green and white hoops and has the scent of goal but Virgil van Dijk gallops in to take the ball of his toe. That's a few times in this match that the Dutchman has been able to recover a situation thanks to his pace.

  52. Post update

Nir Bitton stands on the ankle of United's Blair Spittal, who rolls around in agony until the pain subsides. Bitton is upbraided by Willie Collum and play restarts.

  53. Post update

United centre-half Jaroslaw Fojut springs to head away Kris Commons' in-swinging corner kick from the right. Celtic win the ball back in the final third but can't find an opening and eventually the attack peters out.

  54. Tweet using #bbcscotfootball

David de la Fawkes: "#bbcscotfootball Scott Brown has only been booked 12 times this season? Amazing......"

  55. Post update

    Five minutes until half-time.

  56. Post update

Leigh Griffiths moves in on United goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths and United goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak compete for a long ball forward. Griffiths clipped the Pole's foot after the goalie had cleared the ball but all ended amicably.

  57. Post update

Blair Spittal and Paul Dixon tear Celtic apart down the left and win a corner, but the visitors clear and break swiftly to win a corner at the other end. Stuart Armstrong sends in the delivery for Celtic and United hoof it clear all the way to Craig Gordon at the other end.

  58. Tweet using #bbcscotfootball

EdinburghTom: "The risk for Dundee Utd is that any players doing well 2day will be playing against them in this fixture next season #bbcscotfootball"

  59. Post update

    Former Aberdeen captain Willie Miller

"That would have been an excellent challenge in my day."

  60. YELLOW CARD

Scott Brown is booked by Willie Collum for a meaty challenge on John Rankin, the Celtic captain's 12th booking of the season. He'll be hoping he doesn't get a baker's dozen today. He slid in and with studs up got the ball away from the United midfielder but also sent Rankin spinning into the air.

  61. Post update

Robbie Muirhead is showing an admirable level of enthusiasm, skill and aggression to trouble the visitors' defence. For Celtic, poor Jason Denayer's head will be birlin' as, first, he is lobbed in the box by young Muirhead and, as the ball rolls out of the Celtic penalty box, the Belgian takes a thumping shot to the temple. Ouch.

  62. Post update

Radoslaw Cierzniak slides to his left to turn Kris Commons' deflected shot round the post for a Celtic corner, John Souttar doing enough to take the sting out of the Celtic attacker's dig at goal. United defend stoutly from the corner and in the next move the United keeper gratefully clutches a snap side-footed shot by Virgil van Dijk. It's a decent game, this.

  63. Tweets using #bbcscotfootball

Jamie McGilchrist: "Muirhead already putting himself about more than Ciftci. Telfer is a talent. How long before Celtic come snooping? #bbcscotfootball"

Van Coupon: "Has Scott Brown forgotten how to win a tackle #bbcscotfootball"

  64. GREAT SAVE!

Celtic keeper Craig Gordon arches his back like a gymnast on the high beam and throws up an arm to turn over Robbie Muirhead's sizzling left-foot shot from 20 yards.

  65. Post update

United's Charlie Telfer swings in a cross from the right but it lands over the head of his team-mate in the six-yard box. Moments later Ryan McGowan sends a glancing header just wide of Craig Gordon's goal from a corner kick.

  66. Post update

Former United favourite Stuart Armstrong in action at Tannadice

The Dundee United fans have given former midfield favourite Stuart Armstrong a warm reception as he returns to Tannadice in Celtic colours.

  67. Post update

Virgil van Dijk makes a run to meet a corner from the left but, despite being almost unchallenged, his body position is off and he heads over the United bar.

  68. Post update

Celtic full-back Emilio Izaguirre takes a knock on his ankle, I think, at the edge of the box and has to wait for play to stop before he receives treatment.

  69. Post update

United's sole striker Robbie Muirhead pounces on a moment's hesitation by centre-half Virgil van Dijk and nods the ball ahead of the Dutchman but such is the Celtic player's pace and strength that he recovers in time to regain possession and roll the ball back to keeper Craig Gordon.

  70. Post update

The rampaging Honduran Emilio Izaguirre sprints into an advanced position and pings a cross from the left right across the face of the Terrors' goal, but Stefan Johansen is unable to connect.

  71. Post update

United's Chris Erskine floats a left-footed free-kick into the back post area from out on the right and Callum Morris heads wide...after fouling.

  72. Post update

BBC Scotland football pundit Willie Miller

"It looks like Celtic are going to see a lot of the ball. Dundee United are retreating. It looks as though United are trying to frustrate Celtic."

  73. Post update

It's a brisk pace in the early moments, Celtic pressing.

  74. KICK-OFF

And we're under way at Tannadice.

  75. Post update

Grant Campbell on Facebook: "Hopeful but realistically doubt it. Head says 3-0 Celtic, heart says 2-1 Dundee Utd or a draw."

  76. Post update

The teams are out on the pitch; we're heading for kick-off.

  77. GET INVOLVED

Your contributions are welcome, as always. Please text on 80295, use the hashtag #bbcscotfootball on Twitter or leave a comment on Facebook. Thanks.

  78. Post update

United are in fifth place in the Premiership table. They have struggled since losing Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to Celtic but need to find form very soon to catch third-placed Caley Thistle and St Johnstone who are six points and two points ahead respectively. Inverness have played one game more than Jackie McNamara's side while the Perth Saints have played two games more than United.

  79. Post update

    Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara

"We hope to pass the ball better than we have been. It's important we do things we're good at. We have a young team, with four teenagers starting and more on the bench. It's imperative that we pass the ball. We have five players out so it gives the younger ones a chance. Robbie Muirhead has the ability to cause defences problems. I don't think there will be many surprises with both teams. Maybe it's a measure of success if we are meeting them seven times in a season. Credit to St Johnstone - they had a great result yesterday. We have games in our own hands to close the gap (on Inverness and St Johnstone)."

  80. Post update

BBC Scotland football pundit Pat Bonner

(On Celtic in Scottish Cup semi-final) "I must say the defending was very poor. You would expect Virgil van Dijk to head the ball away and for defenders to deal with balls into the box. They got done on the counter attack. You would expect better. We have seen it in Europe - they don't play with a plan B. Yes, they will win the league but they should be now thinking of the close season, pre-season and into the Champions League. Could that group of players defend for 70-80 minutes there? Europe is too important."

  81. Post update

    Celtic manager Ronny Deila

"We need to play with good balance and be direct enough to ask them questions. Stefan is back again. He has had a rest now and he should have a lot of energy. The main target is (getting over the line). We will do everything to get a good result. The pitch is better, it's greener! Hopefully we can show our quality to win."

  82. Post update

    Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner

"Stefan Johansen is looking a bit jaded now. Celtic will play at a high tempo, pressing Dundee United. The pitch looks better this time."

  83. Post update

BBC Scotland football pundit Willie Miller

"(Dundee United manager) Jackie McNamara will be looking at this one with a bit of trepidation. That's not to say they couldn't cause Celtic a problem or two but it's far from their strongest starting 11. The pitch is looking better than we have seen in many a week."

  84. LINE-UPS AT TANNADICE

Dundee United: Cierzniak, McGowan, Fojut, Morris, Dixon, Souttar, Rankin, Spittal, Telfer, Erskine, Muirhead. Subs: Dillon, Connolly, Scott Smith, Szromnik, Anier, Spark, Coote.

    Referee: Willie Collum

  85. Post update

And let's get a note of the actual line-ups...

  86. TEAM NEWS FROM TANNADICE

Midfielders Stefan Johansen and Kris Commons and right-back Adam Matthews return to the Celtic side. James Forrest, Gary Mackay-Steven and Efe Ambrose drop to the bench for the seventh meeting between the clubs this season.

With Nadir Ciftci suspended and Calum Butcher and Mario Bilate injured, United also show three changes with striker Robbie Muirhead making his first start since signing from Kilmarnock in February while midfielders John Rankin and Blair Spittal return.

  87. Post update

Good afternoon, all, as we get ready for the Scottish Premiership match between Dundee United and Celtic. Kick-off is at 12:30 BST and it promises to be an entertaining match.
