  1. Post update

I hope that was enough excitement for you.

In Italy, we had one team go down to nine men for 25 minutes and bring on a keeper who saved a penalty with his first touch. In the end they were undone by a brace from former player Hernanes, who celebrated both goals exuberantly.

And over in France, two goals in the last 12 minutes saw Marseille go from out of the Champions League race to only two points behind Monaco with two games left.

I had wondered if I'd overhyped this live text as 'race for the Champions League' but in the end it was a thrilling evening.

Thanks for spending it with us.

  2. FULL-TIME

  10. Post update

    Marseille 1-1 Monaco

    Florian Thauvin

Oh Marseille have wasted a huge chance here. They break and Florian Thauvin, on the halfway line, plays it out left to Romain Alessandrini, who is in acres of space. Alessandrini tries to find Thauvin, who is in front of goal, but overhits the cross.

  11. SUBSTITUTION

    Marseille 1-1 Monaco

  12. Post update

  13. GOAL

Marseille 1-1 Monaco - Andre Ayew (79 mins)

    Andre Ayew

Oh hello, this one isn't done yet and Marseille keep their slim Champions League hopes alive thanks to Andre Ayew's header from six yards out. They have 11 minutes for a winner that would see them close the gap on third-placed Monaco to two points.

  14. Post update

Monaco still lead Champions League rivals Marseille 1-0, with Sevilla being held 1-1 by Celta Vigo.

  15. Post update

  23. Post update

    Lazio 1-2 Inter Milan

Free-kick to Lazio near the halfway line as Keita is fouled. Bizarrely they take a quick free-kick. Why didn't they pack the box and go long?

  24. SUBSTITUTION

Inter bring off forward Rodrigo Palacio for midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. We're in four minutes of stoppage time.

  25. Post update

Inter defender Nemanja Vidic is down in pain after a kick in the chest from Marco Parolo. No card though, it was a fair tackle to be made - just mistimed.

  26. Post update

Three minutes to go. Can't see Lazio coming back now.

  32. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Inter Milan are just passing it around at the back and goalkeeper Samir Handanovic gives it back to a Lazio man but luckily for him he gets away with it.

Lazio went forward in numbers there, even defender Edson Braafheid was involved. A risky game to play.

Iggy, Northamptonshire: Wow. And they say the Premier League is the best in the world.

  34. SUBSTITUTION

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Lazio forward Antonio Candreva is in on goal but he's offside. Just about. Maybe. The whistle goes and the home fans are livid.

  36. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

As things stand nine-man Lazio jump above city rivals Roma into second. Surely they can't hand on through can they? Antonio Candreva runs into the corner and tries to win a corner-kick but fails! There's still 15 left!

  37. Join the debate at #bbceurofooty

The Big Valbowski: I don't get excited by Serie A often but Lazio v Inter has been pure box-office all game long. Expect late drama to boot!

    Nemanja Vidic

Twenty minutes to go - it's just attack v defence.

  40. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

I've had to turn the volume down on my television - the boos are so loud. The first red was a bit harsh but the second one was definitely correct - a professional foul.

  41. Join the debate at #bbceurofooty

Sam Lewis: absolutely incredible game. No chance of a win for Lazio, and it will be desperately hard to keep it down to 1-1.

  42. SUBSTITUTION

Deafening boos across the Olympic Stadium as Inter put together plenty of passes.

  49. SUBSTITUTION

Goalkeeper Etrit Berisha comes on for Lazio, striker Miroslav Klose comes off. Booo

  50. RED CARD

Federico Marchetti is sent off! He'd already been booked but this is a straight red.

  53. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

    Edson Braafheid

Inter on the attack but Hernanes has a shot blocked after Rodrigo Palacio pulls the ball back to the midfielder. And a few seconds later Lukas Podolski blazes well over. The Arsenal loanee only has one goal since his January move.

  54. Post update

    Second half under way.

  58. SUBSTITUTION

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Inter bring on Lukas Podolski for injured Fredy Guarin at half-time.

  59. Post update

    Portuguese Primeira Liga

In Portugal, FC Porto are on the verge of clinching their place in the Champions League group stages. They lead Gil Vicente 1-0 with about 15 minutes left; Jackson Martinez the scorer.

They will be three points off leaders Benfica with two games left.

  60. Post update

In news which could affect a couple of our teams today, Uefa restricted the size of a few teams' squads for next season's European competitions.

Seven teams have received that punishment after breaking Financial Fair Play rules.

Monaco, Roma, Besiktas, Krasnodar, Lokomotiv Moscow and Sporting Lisbon can only name 22 players in next season's Champions League or Europa League squads.

Inter Milan, if they qualify for the Europa League, have been capped at 21.

  61. Post update

    Gareth Bale

Some good quotes from Gareth Bale's agent earlier.

"Real have to work with Gareth and pass the ball to him more," Jonathan Barnett told the Sunday Telegraph.

"Give him more of the ball and let him show everybody what he's good at.

"He's going to be the best player at Real Madrid when his team-mates work with him and help him."

Ah poor lad. Shame he can't just pick up the ball and bring it home with him like you did as a child if you owned the ball.

  62. Post update

    Marseille 0-1 Monaco

    Ricardo Carvalho

Monaco goalscorer Joao Moutinho was struggling with an injury but he's OK to carry on.

  63. HALF-TIME

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Half-time. Whistles from the home fans - they are livid about the red card decision earlier.

  64. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Lazio end the half on the attack, Lucas Biglia's free-kick is tipped over by Samir Handanovic. Corner.

  65. INJURY TIME

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin has injured himself and is limping off the pitch. We're in two minutes of injury time so I guess they'll assess him at half-time.

  66. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Hernanes does take it but he rolls it to Fredy Guarin in a rehearsed set-piece; the Colombian's shot is tipped around the post by Federico Marchetti.

And from the corner Nemanja Vidic heads wide.

  67. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Free-kick to Inter. Surely Hernanes will take this one too.

  68. Post update

Sevilla still lead Celta Vigo 1-0, with Monaco doing likewise against Marseille. Those games are just approaching the half-hour mark now.

  69. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

    Hernanes

About six minutes until half-time, it's settled down a bit now at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

  70. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

It's a ridiculously entertaining game now, Rodrigo Palacio forces a save from Federico Marchetti. Action-packed doesn't do it justice. Which will explain the low frequency of updates from Vigo and Marseille so far!

  71. Post update

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Boos ring out around the stadium as Inter striker Mauro Icardi gets the ball. They think he went down easily for Mauricio's red card. He did that waving an imaginary card that winds up some people afterwards.

  72. SUBSTITUTION

    Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan

Lazio now make a change, defender Edson Braafheid comes on for midfielder Stefano Mauri.

Mauri was booked for complaining about the red card. And then goalkeeper Federico Marchetti was booked for a complaint after the goal - Lazio weren't happy with something about it - not sure if it was a push in the wall or someone offside interfering with play. Didn't look anything wrong with it.

  73. GOAL

Lazio 1-1 Inter Milan - Hernanes (26 mins)

    Hernanes

It's action overload in Europe. Hernanes steps up to take the free-kick Lazio won when Mauricio was sent off. And he scores. Most players don't celebrate against their former clubs but the Brazilian does some kind of acrobatic flip.

  74. GOAL

Celta Vigo 0-1 Sevilla - Kevin Gameiro (7 mins)

    Kevin Gameiro

Kevin Gameiro gives Sevilla the lead.

  75. RED CARD

    Lazio 1-0 Inter Milan

    Rodrigo Palacio

Lazio go down to 10 men! Ball is played over the top to Rodrigo Palacio, Lazio defender Mauricio puts a hand on his back and the striker goes down. Red card! Harsh. Free-kick just outside the box.

  76. Post update

    Celta Vigo 0-0 Sevilla

Under way in Vigo - no goals yet.

  77. GOAL

Marseille 0-1 Monaco - Joao Moutinho (1 min)

    Joao Moutinho

I hadn't even told you this game had started before it was 1-0! Joao Moutinho absolutely smashes one into the bottom corner within 50 seconds. Remarkable.

You would rank Miroslav Klose over every striker ever bar Marco van Basten? I'm a big Klose fan but still...

  79. Post update

    Lazio 1-0 Inter Milan

    Miroslav Klose

It should be 2-0, Miroslav Klose pulls it back to Marco Parolo. His first shot is saved by Samir Handanovic and from the rebound his header looks goalbound by somehow defender Andrea Ranocchia keeps it out.

The Big Valbowski: Clearly its one Handnotenoughic that's responsible for that goal

    Hmmm.

  81. Post update

    Lazio 1-0 Inter Milan

A hideous miss from Inter forward Mauro Icardi. Hernanes, the former Lazio midfielder, gets into a good position and plays a perfect ball through to his team-mate. Icardi controls it, takes aim and fires well over the bar. Should have been 1-1.

  82. YELLOW CARD

    Lazio 1-0 Inter Milan

Lazio break from the back as Felipe Anderson charges forward into Inter's half. Danilo D'Ambrosio fouls him to stop him breaking away and gets a booking.

  83. Post update

    Marseille v Monaco (20:00 BST)

    Dimitar Berbatov

Monaco have had a remarkable turnaround during the season to stand on the brink of the Champions League. Marseille have had a similarly dramatic collapse.

After 17 games Marseille led the league and sat 12 points above seventh-placed Monaco. But since then Monaco - who reached this season's quarter-finalists - have been the in-form team in the French league.

Marseille, on the other hand, are only four points above relegation form in that time.

  84. GOAL

Lazio 1-0 Inter Milan - Antonio Candreva (8 mins)

    Antonio Candreva

Antonio Candreva plays it to Felipe Anderson, who cuts it back for the Italian to fire home. Inter keeper Samir Handanovic got a hand to it but could not keep it out. Lazio would go second as things stand.

Monaco: Subasic, Raggi, Kurzawa, Abdennour, Carvalho, Fabinho, Moutinho, Silva, Carrasco, Kondogbia, Martial.

  91. LINE-UPS

Lazio v Inter Milan (19:45 BST)

Former Premier League duo Nemanja Vidic and Gary Medel start for Roberto Mancini's Inter.

  92. Post update

Lazio v Inter Milan (19:45 BST)

Lazio have had a pretty decent season; they are in the Coppa Italia final next month (against Juventus) and are chasing a first Champions League place since 2007-08. They finished ninth last season and did not qualify for Europe at all.

Inter Milan are eighth, one position above where they were when Roberto Mancini took over in November. They still have an outside shot of qualifying for next season's Europa League.

    Roberto Mancini
  93. Post update

Celta Vigo v Sevilla (20:00 BST)

    Spanish La Liga

    La Liga

Spain's La Liga is the same as the English Premier League - top three reach the Champions League group stages, while fourth place goes into the play-off.

Sevilla are four points behind fourth-placed Valencia (who drew with Real Madrid yesterday). Presuming the Spanish league finishes (more on that here) they are running out of games to reach the top four.

The Spanish league comes down to head to head, not goal difference, and Valencia edge them on that so they need to pick up more points than their rivals.

  94. Post update

    Marseille v Monaco (20:00 BST)

    French Ligue 1

    Ligue 1 table

In France, the top three qualify, with the top two going straight to the group stages. Paris St-Germain, who only need a point to wrap up the league, and Lyon are already qualified.

So the battle for the third and final spot comes down to Monaco, St Etienne and Marseille. If Marseille lose to Monaco tonight they will be out of the equation.

I mean technically Bordeaux can still qualify but it would take a set of results that merit need a Uefa investigation.

  95. Post update

Lazio v Inter Milan (19:45 BST)

    Italian Serie A

    Serie A

In Italy, the top two teams progress to the Champions League group stages, with third place reaching the play-off.

Lazio don't know whether to look up or down in the table. With four games left they are three points above Rafael Benitez's Napoli in fourth. But win or draw tonight against Inter Milan and they overtake arch-rivals Roma into second place.

It goes down to head to head instead of goal difference if teams are level. Napoli beat Lazio 1-0 earlier this season, and their next meeting? On the final day.

  96. Post update

But tonight is about who will qualify for the lucrative European Cup.

We will bring you the latest from Italy, France and Spain in the battle to reach next season's tournament - and earn loads of lovely euro.

  97. Post update

    Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique

This week we will know who is in the Champions League final.

Bayern Munich host Barcelona in the Pep Guardiola derby on Tuesday, while Real Madrid are at home to Juventus in El Ancelottico (that doesn't work, does it?) on Wednesday.

They all played yesterday - a red card, a title bid in tatters, a key player returning from injury and only one win; read our review of how all four teams warmed up here.

  98. Race for the Champions League

    Champions League trophy

There is one club tournament every player in the world dreams of playing in.

No, it's not the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Or the Petrofac Training Cup.

It is, of course, the Champions League.

We know the last four in this season's tournament but today we could move a step closer to knowing who will be in next season's cup.
