Aya Miyami is a quality player, she was so long waiting to take the penalty and I thought this is Karen Bardsley’s but she sent her the wrong way - that’s confidence for you.

That is hugely disappointing for England. There had not been much between the two teams but England need to quickly respond.

Soft. that's what that penalty decision was. England don't need to panic, there's all sorts of time left.

It’s a good run from Saori Ariyoshi and she gets the wrong side of Claire Rafferty, she does have two arms on her back, and when you do that the referee is going to give a penalty isn’t she?

Japan captain Aya Miyami takes an age, a stuttering run-up, but she eventually steps up and steers into the bottom corner. England with it all to do now, Japan don't concede many.

It starts outside the box. With her momentum she will fall into the box. It was untidy from Claire Rafferty.

The difference between England's performance today and in other games is that the long balls forward are not just aimless, they are thinking about the pass and trying to keep possession.

Well played Toni Duggan. She collects a throw on the left, turns inside and wriggles past two defenders to get a cross in but it's well cut out by goalkeeper Ayumi Kaihori.

Jill Scott then crosses for Duggan but Dugs leans back and fires her volley well over. Difficult take, she was 15 yards out and the ball was coming from a height, it needed a Mark Hughes style scissor kick. That was more Merv Hughes.

Nothing wrong with the ball over the top, if it works. Japan have clearly got the edge on keeping possession but England loo to have the physical edge. Jill Scott holds off two defenders easily down the right to illustrate my point.

England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley always gives you a chance, and she misjudges a long ball forward and is relieved to see the ball bounce over her and over the vacant goal too. She was rescued by an offside flag but that was not very convincing...

Fans still arriving at the ground as Toni Duggan swivels to strike over the bar from a tight angle. Not afraid to have a dig, is Dugs.
