Just to recap, Lee Erwin and Stephen McManus scored to give Motherwell a 2-0 interval lead following a strong start from Rangers. Lionel Ainsworth added a third early in the second half, which really knocked the stuffing out of the hosts. However, Rangers rallied late on and a Darren McGregor goal gives them something to fight for in Sunday's second leg.

"It was becoming a long night. Rangers were throwing everything at us but it was a fantastic performance. We came here with a game plan and we executed it. Everyone showed what they can do, I knew we had a performance coming.

"We needed to be patient and pick the right passes at the right time. It's probably the best performance in my time and we'll need another one on Sunday. Nobody is getting ahead of themselves."

Motherwell deserve a huge slap on the back for that performance. They soaked up a lot of pressure, George Long made a string of impressive saves and they knocked in three goals away from home. Not bad for a team supposedly low on confidence...

Sorry to remind Hibs fans of last year's play-off, but the Edinburgh side had a two-goal lead going into their home leg of the final and managed to blow it; going down after a penalty shoot-out with Hamilton Accies.

Kris Boyd brings down a cross from Andy Murdoch on his chest and rifles the ball home from seven yards but the striker had edged offside and the assistant's flag was up nice and early.

Rangers have their tails up now as Motherwell are forced deeper and deeper. The visitors have six men strung across the 18-yard line and another four just in front of them.

Just before that goal, Motherwell made a change, replacing midfielder Stephen Pearson with defender Simon Ramsden.

A few home fans have missed this one as they head home early. Nicky Law floats in a corner and Darren McGregor is up early to bullet a header in. Will that lift Rangers for a grandstand finish?

No, Stuart McCall hasn't forgotten he's no longer Motherwell manager as he ploughs into the opposition technical area. He's simply determined to retrieve the ball and get play started again as quickly as possible. Ian Baraclough isn't perturbed in the slightest, giving his opposite number a friendly pat on the back.

George Long is having some night! Richard Foster swings in a cross for Kris Boyd to meet with a thumping header at the back post but the Motherwell keeper is somehow able to keep it out with his outstretched arms.
