It was only last weekend that fans staged a fly-past protest against chairman Bill Kenwright and the Toffees board.

Yet three points against Manchester City will be enough to see the Toffees end the third weekend of the season in first position.

"If John Stones is the slightest bit discontented by the ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea, he is doing a very good job of disguising it.

"He was all smiles when he arrived at Goodison Park, greeting staff warmly and looking completely relaxed.

"The debate will continue as Chelsea weigh up that fourth bid and he will have the perfect opportunity to display his quality in attempting to quell the threat of Manchester City's Sergio Aguero here at Goodison Park."

Could this be John Stones's last Goodison Park appearance for Everton?

Not according to Toffees boss Roberto Martinez, who says the club will not sell the Chelsea target even if he hands in a transfer request.

The transfer window closes on 1 September, and Martinez adds: "In a saga of I don't know how many weeks now, we are very clear."

In the meantime, Stones is making his 50th start for the club since joining from Barnsley in January 2013.

I watched Everton in their opening match against Watford and they have to play better to get a result against Manuel Pellegrini's side but they will always believe they can cause the big boys a problem at Goodison Park. This one could well take a monumental effort."
