Ronald Koeman is still hobbling about in his black boot following an injury to his Achilles. Sad to see a man of his calibre hamstrung but he gets a friendly hug from Tony Pulis. "This transfer window, eh?" they might have said.

"Saido Berahino will probably regret it. I would never have been near Twitter when I was playing – you leave yourself open for a lot. Tony Pulis has handled the situation well. He’s been there and seen it at various levels.

"You don’t want this to get into Saido’s mindset. It can tip the balance of his career. You don’t want six months down the line he’s not scoring and not getting in West Brom’s team anymore – that is the kind of thing that can happen."

The teams are announced at the Hawthorns and boos are audible as Saido Berahino's name is read out. Work to do, it seems.

West Brom v Southampton (15:00 BST)

So aside from the histrionics off the pitch, what will today's game offer? Well, historically, it has hardly been a goal-fest. There have been only three goals between the two teams in the past four games. And the Hawthorns has not been a happy hunting ground for the Saints....

West Brom v Southampton (15:00 BST)

Saido Berhaino has been out on the pitch at the Hawthorns, busy warming up along with the other substitutes. By the look on his face he know he's a watched man today.

  13. 'Berahino will get his move'published at 14:40 British Summer Time 12 September 2015

West Brom v Southampton (15:00 BST)

    Sam Allardyce
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Tony Pulis knows Saido Berahino is a hugely important player – hopefully he can learn from his manager’s experience. He has to go out and score as many goals and be the hero again and it’ll be soon forgotten.

"He’s particularly talented and in his inexperience he has been led astray by third parties. If he plays as well as he can, he’ll get his move eventually.

"It was nice to see a couple of stand-offs for a change – we all thought John Stones would go and I thought Berahino would."

So Saido Berahino starts as a substitute. Victor Wanyama is back in the Southampton team too. But do you forgive them? Will they be off at the end of the season? Is it another sign of footballers showing no loyalty? Or are you happy for them to try and excel elsewhere?

Yes. Ten days after saying he would never play under West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace again, Saido Berahino starts his re-integration by being named on the bench. Jonny Evans makes his debut in defence after moving from Manchester United, while Rickie Lambert starts up front against his former team.

Victor Wanyama is back in the Southampton midfield after boss Ronald Koeman said the Kenyan wasn't right to play against Norwich. Virgil van Dijk makes his debut in defence after his Celtic move and Jay Rodriguez replaces Sadio Mane in attack.

West Brom XI: Myhill, Dawson, McAuley, Evans, Brunt, Gardner, Fletcher (c), Yacob, McManaman, Lambert, Rondon.

Southampton XI: Stekelenburg, Cédric, Fonte, van Dijk, Targett, Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, S. Davis, Rodriguez, Tadic, Pelle.

Saido Berahino went a step further than Victor Wanyama, of course, threatening to strike at one point. Will his team-mates or the fans forgive him? West Brom boss Tony Pulis says he wants the 22-year-old back playing as soon as possible. So is he in today's team?

    West Brom v Southampton (15:00)

Two teams that will be happy that the transfer window has closed and Tottenham have been left empty-handed. Spurs were chasing both West Brom striker Saido Berahino and Saints midfielder Victor Wanyama. Both stayed put, will we see them justify the fuss today?
