I think the lack of top quality in the Premier League is summed up by the previous use of the phrase 'the best league in the world' being replaced nowadays by 'the most entertaining league in the world'

  4. Do you know your best team?published at 22:31

    Porto 2-1 Chelsea

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho: "When you win matches, you perform well, it is easy to know your best team.

"When the team is not winning on a regular basis it is normal that you have to make changes. After games like tonight it is difficult to analyse."

  5. Porto 'spectacular'published at 22:29 British Summer Time 29 September 2015

    Porto 2-1 Chelsea

Porto manager Julen Lopetegui: "The players' attitude was amazing, spectacular. It was our best performance of the season.

"I have to congratulate my team. This three points are totally deserved. It was tough and unfair to go to the dressing room at half-time with a draw, but we reacted well."

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett pays tribute to outgoing chairman, Steve Morgan after a 3-0 win at Wolves: "He has been great for me personally, and I wish him well for the future.

"I felt we were the better team even before the sending-off. We showed signs of recovery after an indifferent start."

Birmingham manager Gary Rowett: "We got back to our identity tonight after beating Brentford 2-0. We were solid and we dominated the second half."

Arsene Wenger again bemoans his side's 'bad luck' in defeat at home to Olympiakos. I can't see that washing with Arsenal fans...

Typical Arsenal. We've been hearing the same arguments about Arsenal for the past eight years. Wenger's too stubborn to address the weaknesses in the squad. They have never come close to replacing Campbell, Vieira, Gilberto and Henry. Lightweight players who cannot mix it up will get you nowhere.

  9. Mourinho not overly criticalpublished at 22:19

    Porto 2-1 Chelsea

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho: "The most basic thing in football is a defensive set-play. We had chances after that to get a positive result and we had a clear penalty - so for me I am not here to criticise the players.

"I am not going to point the finger but two mistakes cost us the game. The team played well against a difficult opponent. The Champions League brings a different atmosphere."

  10. 'Bad luck and lack of concentration'published at 22:15 British Summer Time 29 September 2015

    Arsenal 2-3 Olympiakos

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "It is still possible of course to qualify but it is difficult to swallow losing a game like that. We lost it on a lack of defensive concentration and bad luck. They had four shots on goal and we conceded three goals.

"The turning point at 2-2 is we give them a goal again straight away. If it stays 2-2 for five minutes we win the game.

"A goalkeeper can make a mistake that doesn't explain that we lose the game. It happened to Petr Cech already this season [against West Ham]."

Ian Lamerton: Wenger has to take the blame. Disrespected Zagreb and Olympiakos with team selections and paid the price

Kaganzi Allan: Arsenal is not only pedestrian but primitive. They lack ideas where they are needed most!!

  12. 'A ridiculous goal'published at 22:09

    Porto 2-1 Chelsea

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "We watch dozens and dozens of repetitions of Porto taking corners. We were completely ready for that and in a moment when the game is under control we concede a goal that is ridiculous.

"They hit the post from a similar mistake. Apart from that the game was balanced. Two ridiculous moments and we were punished."

New manager, same results for Brentford.

Their 2-0 loss to Birmingham is their second home defeat in four days and they remain just a point ahead of the bottom three.

Blues meanwhile leapfrog Burnley and Cardiff into fifth place.

Wolves climb to 10th with their 3-0 win over 10-man Fulham. Tom Cairney's dismissal led to a one-sided game, with substitute Sheyi Ojo scoring one and making another before James Henry's free kick made it three.

    Fulham drop to 14th.

It's a shambles at the Bridge, Mourhino should have gone after the saga with the doctor , he thinks he is bigger than the club. Well Jose you're not, you are arrogant, and you will be gone by Christmas. PS it could be worse, I could be an Arsenal fan

For me, the Premier League is the best in the world for entertainment. Maybe the quality isn't there in Europe compared to the late 2000s and it isn't as competitive in major competitions as it once was. But that just adds to the drama and unpredictability of English clubs and the Premier League. Millions still tune in to the the league every week for this reason, and so may it continue.

"Chelsea didn't have a problem going forward but that's another two goals they've conceded tonight, and Asmir Begovic made some outstanding saves, too.

"The word from inside Chelsea on Baba Rahman is that he's a bit rash. Maybe tonight under the spotlight Jose Mourinho probably thought he couldn't leave out Branislav Ivanovic by moving Cesar Azpilicueta to the right.

"In the second half Porto were all over them and Begovic was probably Chelsea's man of the match, but overall their performance wasn't bad."
