    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

Newcastle have not done much attacking recently but they continue to look dangerous when they do come forward - Georginio Wijnaldum's shot from the edge of the box would have been a lot more dangerous had it not been straight at Joe Hart.

    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

More City pressure ends with another City shot. This time it is Fernandinho who has a pop but his effort from 25 yards out bounces wide of Tim Krul's right-hand post.

"Tim Krul hasn't had much to do and that will be the worrying thing for Pellegini. They are just not making the chances they were earlier in the season."

    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

Vurnon Anita flies into a 50-50 tackle on Pablo Zabaleta and becomes the first player to be booked by referee Kevin Friend. City have a free-kick, 30 yards, out which Newcastle somehow put behind.

    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

Better by City, and Sergio Aguero's best moment of the match so far - he runs on to Fernandinho's pass and lets fly with a low shot from the edge of the box that fizzes just wide.

    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

City come forward again, and again fail to get a shot away. Again Raheem Sterling makes the mistake, failing to put enough on his pass to Aleksandar Kolarov - those two are not linking up too well on the left right now.

    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

City feeble at the back and frustrated going foward. This time Raheem Sterling is stopped by a hobbling Daryl Janmaat, and then fouls the Newcastle full-back.

The Magpies are good value for their lead at the moment.

Here's that Newcastle goal in graphical form... Aleksandar Mitrovic's first goal for Newcastle looks fairly simple, but there was a touch of class in Georginio Wijnaludum's neat knock back as well as the finish.

    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

City torn apart again and Joe Hart saves them, again. There were three Newcastle players in space in the area this time. Ayoze Perez was offside when he ran through, but the flag stayed down and that would have counted.

City are all over the place at the back and the linesman's flag rescues them when Ayoze Perez gets on the end of a cross from the right. Newcastle keep coming forward and another delivery from the same flank is nodded over by Aleksandar Mitrovic.

    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

The last time Newcastle came to Etihad Stadium, in February, they were 3-0 down by this stage. Things are very different at the moment.

    Man City 0-1 Newcastle

The Newcastle fans are making all the noise at Etihad Stadium at the moment, as you would expect.

On the pitch, the Magpies get behind City's defence again but Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez are both offside. Joe Hart saves Perez's shot anyway.

    Aleksandar Mitrovic (17 mins)

Aleksandar Mitrovic bags his first Newcastle goal since his £13m summer move from Anderlecht, and it is a lovely stooping nodded finish. It owes a lot to Georginio Wijnaldum's composed cross from the left, too, because it looked like City had cleared the danger after Kevin Mbabu had got past Pablo Zabaleta and put in the initial delivery.

    Man City 0-0 Newcastle

Good defending by Newcastle this time, with Chancel Mbemba standing firm as Raheem Sterling darts into the box. Moments later, Mbemba is at it again, stopping Kevin de Bruyne in his tracks.

    Man City 0-0 Newcastle

Just as it looked like City were getting on top, Newcastle go close.

Kevin Mbabu's clever bending ball into the box finds Aleksandar Mitrovic running into space but he does not get enough on his first time shot to beat Joe Hart - he tried to flick it over him, but Hart read it well.

    Man City 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle have still had more possession - 58% of it - but it is City who are threatening more when they come forward. Another precise passing move ends with an Aleksandar Kolarov cross that Sergio Aguero gets on the end of but sees his header blocked.

    Man City 0-0 Newcastle

Another sniff for City. Kevin Mbabu switches off as a ball drops towards the edge of the area and David Silva is on to it, lobbing the onrushing Tim Krul but seeing his shot clear the bar.

    Man City 0-0 Newcastle

Much better from City here - Newcastle survive, but I'm not sure how...

Tim Krul can only parry Kevin de Bruyne's free-kick and David Silva pulls it back for Fernando, who cannot get much power behind his shot from point-blank range. Krul is up to save again and the Magpies eventually scramble it clear.
