Just when you thought Everton were about to get back into the game, that happens. It's a big blow for the home side and their chances of getting anything out of this game are about 1%.

Manager Louis van Gaal looks pleased on the bench, applauding his players with vigour.

"Everton were caught on the break, but give United credit. They played the ball though, Rooney ran onto it and we were right behind his shot. Howard came out quickly but Rooney got enough on the ball to put it in.

"After a bright start, Everton are out of this now. They have been punished by United."

Morgan Schneiderlin pounces on Phil Jagielka's wayward pass and the ball reaches the impressive Ander Herrera, whose ball into the path of Wayne Rooney is perfect.

    Everton 0-2 Man Utd

A set piece is going to be Everton's best chance of getting back into this match. Ross Barkley with a curled free-kick from out wide which David de Gea has to react to and kick away.

    Unorthodox goalkeeping but very effective.

An hour gone, United still lead by two goals.

  5. Postpublished at 58 mins

    Everton 0-2 Man Utd

Louis van Gaal needs to send on a Land Rover or another 4x4 vehicle to try and stop Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian is just so strong, holding off two United men on the halfway line like they are little kids, almost teasing them saying, 'come on then'.

Still no goals for the home side though.

  6. CLOSE!published at 55 mins

    Everton 0-2 Man Utd

Everton cranking up the pressure and the volume! Aaron Lennon cuts the ball back to Romelu Lukaku, whose placed finish is kept out by the outstretched foot of David de Gea.

Ghazanfar Aslam: I think LvG has now truly understood why it was important to bring Herrera and Schneiderlin back. This is by far the best, most tactically disciplined team he's ever fielded.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 52 mins

    Everton 0-2 Man Utd

Romelu Lukaku is a real handful and causes Morcos Rojo to bundle him over on the right side of the penalty area.

Ross Barkley's free-kick is a disappointing one though, failing to clear the first man.

Goal coming for the home side?

  9. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Everton 0-2 Man Utd

Everton looking much better. Arouna Kone has added some impetus up front, playing a one-two with striker partner Romelu Lukaku before firing a shot which is blocked.

The home fans are beginning to find their voices.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 50 mins

    Everton 0-2 Man Utd

Bastian Schweinsteiger goes into the book. It's for an accumulation of offences, rather than the one on Ross Barkley just now.

  11. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Everton 0-2 Man Utd

It's a lovely delivery into a dangerous area from Ross Barkley, but Chris Smalling can clear at the back post before Romelu Lukaku can come steaming in.

A bright start from the home side as they look to overturn a two goal deficit.
