    Newcastle 1-1 Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde on BBC Sport:

"We didn't play well at all in the first 45 minutes. We were out of the game in terms of impact and intensity. If you are in the position we are in it's diffiuclt for the player to get in the game straight away.

"There's a lack of confidence. It's better to react late then not to react. The fact we got back in the game could be very important.

"Newcastle have won the last two games, but in the second half we showed we are not far away from this type of team. Jordan Ayew's goal was good, but the work he did for the team was very good as well."

    Newcastle 1-1 Aston Villa

Newcastle head coach Steve McClaren on BBC Sport:

"I've just seen the Siem De Jong header that he missed. It's one of them things. Two minutes later they equalised. The conditions were horrendous. Get the ball wide and get the ball in the box - it was a game for width.

"Anybody can beat anybody in the league. I said before the match this was a dangerous game. Regarding us, a settled side has helped the momentum. We might not win every game but we've made huge steps forward."

Newcastle manager Steve McClaren on Sky Sports: "I'd say that was a battling point and two points lost. I just saw three clear cut chances. I'm proud of the players - they kept going forward and forward.

"There were two good chances for Gini Wijnaldum and Ayoze Perez. Another day and you take those chances. They were difficult, difficult conditions."

    Fabricio Coloccini celebratesImage source, Reuters

Newcastle goalscorer Fabricio Coloccini on Sky Sports: "We played better in the first half. In the second half they had more situations. After the last two games, when we won, it was an important point because we have seven points in nine now."

Aston Villa scorer Jordan Ayew on Sky Sports: "In the first half we changed our formation so it was complicated, but it got better when Rudy Gestede came on. One point is better than nothing. If we play like we did in the second half then we will win games. I think I scored one of my best goals."

"Aston Villa deserved a point for their second half performance. They got a good equaliser, but Newcastle are just so Jekyll and Hyde. It's scary.
