What a return from injury this is turning out to be!

Andy Carroll nods home from close range after Michail Antonio's header hits the underside of the bar and comes back to him.

Michail Antonio cannot believe his luck. Running in from the left he trips over in the box - the fans want a penalty, but soon forget all about it as Southampton's clearance booms off the West Ham winger and into the net!

Overload for Southampton, and Steven Davis goes for the spectacular...

But he is not Davor Suker chipping Peter Schmeichel in Euro 96. West Ham keeper Adrian easily collects.

Might a ball through to Shane Long have been the better option? West Ham were exposed.

YELLOW CARD

Had to be. 

Michail Antonio had broken clear down the right wing, and all Ryan Bertrand could do was trip him down from behind. Yellow, but the free-kick is cleared. 

Unlucky Carl Jenkinson 

Tearing down the right wing (again) he's almost running too quickly for his own good trying to evade the dogged Shane Long. 

He ends up toeing the ball rather meekly towards the Southampton net, when for a moment it looked like he'd broken free.

Just half an hour to play. It's all got a bit cagey.

West Ham have shown a lot more of what they can do in this second half so far though. Can they raise it another notch? 

Or are Southampton going to cruise to another win? 

YELLOW CARD

Another booking. James Tomkins collects one for a handball that stops Dusan Tadic in his tracks. 

We have our first sighting of Andy Carroll in his natural element - tracking on to that hanging high ball lofted in from the flank. 

He connects and directs it downwards but there's not enough power. Easily collected.

Oriol Romeu doesn't look the type to be too abashed at picking up a booking and he's got one here. 

A cynical chop to stop West Ham picking up the loose ball to counter. That's his fifth of the season and he'll miss the next match. 

Bad news for Dusan Tadic - that opening goal's been taken away from him...

YELLOW CARD

Cuco Martina goes into the book - he hauled down Enner Valencia. Bit of a silly challenge that, Valencia wasn't really going anywhere. 

Another little tactical switch to tell you about - Carl Jenkinson is now at right-back, with James Tomkins going to the left. 

Jenkinson is already finding loads of space down the right wing. This switch could be a fruitful one in time. West Ham are certainly looking much improved...

James Collins deserves a goal just for his defensive work in that first half and he nearly has one here - his header cleared off the line!

But oh my, Andy Carroll. He booms one over the bar from the edge of the six-yard box as the ball comes back in. 

Not the return he will have been dreaming about...

Andy Carroll is on, Mauro Zarate the man coming off. 

And Manuel Lanzini also makes his return from injury - he comes on for Alex Song. Two pretty attacking moves from Slaven Bilic.

I honestly can't remember a decent West Ham chance in this half. There just hasn't been one. 

A very disappointing showing from the home side.

But only Southampton look like scoring right now.

Make that three chances as Dusan Tadic fires straight at Adrian when well-placed outside the box.

Two very good chances for Southampton to double their lead before the break. 

Jose Fonte's header from a corner is clawed away by Adrian, before Sadio Mane can't get a clean shot away when played in behind. 

This is not looking good for the Hammers...

James Collins is having a brilliant game though. 

He makes another great clearance from a Saints free-kick that threatened to swirl its way towards danger at the back post. Virgil van Dijk was ready to pounce on it.

Poor from Mauro Zarate. He gives the ball away to Steven Davis in midfield before chopping the Southampton man down in frustration. It was a lazy trip.

Slaven Bilic will be wanting much more than this...

A word of sympathy for James Tomkins, who's playing with a military-grade shiner today. 

If I can find any pictures I'll dig them out, but it really is a massively bruised eye.

This first half seems to have flown by. Just 15 minutes left for West Ham to get back into this before half-time. 

Some clever keep-ball from the hosts and signs Southampton are dropping deep, but this move comes to naught as Mauro Zarate's low cross is easily gathered. 

The go-to ball for Southampton so far seems to be the deep one into the corner where Carl Jenkinson is West Ham's left-back. 

Time and again they've found space there.

Big chance for a second. West Ham are on the ropes. 

Shane Long down the right channel cuts back to Steven Davis in all kinds of space - but a brilliant James Collins diving challenge sends the ball skywards and behind for a corner. 

It's cleared, but only so far, and the Hammers get away with one again as a Saints cross zips across the face of goal. 

If you compare this average position map with the one from about five minutes ago, you can really see the Hammers are in retreat.

The home side need to just settle things down here. 

Southampton are looking very, very dangerous now. There's a really menacing zip to their forays forward, and in midfield it's all harry and hassle.

James Collins booms it up to nobody in particular and cue a round of muted boos from the home crowd. 

A far more graceful loop by Jose Fonte almost plays in Shane Long... but with Collins covering he has to cut back onto his left and can't make a decent connection on the shot.

After a very slow start Southampton are really starting to get men forward. 

Sadio Mane's dangerous cross is cut out by James Collins at the near post as the away side get in behind again.

Taking a good look at the slow-mo replay, Dusan Tadic may end up losing that goal - it looks like the vital touch came off Carl Jenkinson. 

The big question: Was Tadic's prod heading in? More on that one later no doubt...

We have not seen much from the away side so far.

Brilliant turn and run from Enner Valencia - Jose Fonte is beaten on the halfway all ends up and the striker is away. 

Plenty to do though, and when bearing down on goal his shot is blocked on the edge of the box and harmlessly bounces wide. 

There were bums off seats for a moment though...   

Very solid defending from Virgil van Dijk to see off Enner Valencia. 

The West Ham striker tries to out-battle his marker down the right channel, but Van Dijk is too strong. 

Some decent stuff in tight spaces in midfield from the Hammers. 

Alex Song and Cheikhou Kouyate are two tough cookies, while Mark Noble is looking for the crafted low ball up to Enner Valencia.

Carl Jenkinson now with the jinky run down the wing - the left one this time. 

Jose Fonte comes steaming across to knock it behind though, and Mauro Zarate's corner is nodded clear by Shane Long.

Michail Antonio shows a lovely touch and turn to evade Virgil van Dijk down the right wing and is really unlucky not to win a corner. 

The replay shows it was the Dutchman who clearly turned the ball behind. Instead, goal kick Saints.

Southampton kick us off. 

Right then, we are very close indeed to getting this one under way. 

Plenty of bubbles in the air.

Although it has to be said, they haven't won in that time. Draws, draws and more draws for the Hammers. Five in a row in the top flight, for the first time since 1968!

Benitez or Bilic?

By the way, did you hear what West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has had to say today?

Apparently the Hammers were "two hours" away from appointing Rafael Benitez as manager in the summer - before they hired Slaven Bilic of course.

"We were two hours from getting Benitez and then Real Madrid came in. We had agreed a contract," Sullivan said.

"He is a top manager whatever anybody says, and I think he'd have done a wonderful job for us."

Southampton looked like they had had the hurry-up from Ronald Koeman when they thrashed Arsenal on Boxing Day night. They have been a bit too nice and very inconsistent but the Arsenal game was a significant win. They convinced themselves that they need to be nasty in footballing parlance, more bullish.

West Ham have drawn their last five and are without some key players and are just nursing their way through until Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho are back fit. They will be fine this season but I can see the Saints rolling them over.

"Even in this most unpredictable of seasons I don't think many would have predicted that Southampton would give Arsenal a 4-0 thumping on Boxing Day, certainly not me anyway.

"And what about that goal! Cuco Martina's wonder strike makes him the first player from Curaçao to score in the Premier League, meaning players from 93 different nationalities have now scored in the competition.

"West Ham's game at Aston Villa didn't hit those sort of heights, but was decent enough and Slaven Bilic wasn't unhappy with a point despite feeling a couple of big decisions hadn't gone their way.

"It's five draws in a row for the Hammers as they continue to tread water while several key players recover from injury."

Aaron Cresswell misses his first game this season through injury, with Carl Jenkinson coming in. Alex Song also comes in, replacing Pedro Obiang.
