  1. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

Spurs make a real mess of the free-kick, though, with Kieran Trippier at fault with a really loose delivery after the ball is squared to him.

Sunderland look to punish them with a swift break forward and, briefly, have two men behind the Spurs defence, but the home side recover and Jermain Defoe is forced wide and can only find the side netting. A let-off for Tottenham.

  2. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

Kieran Trippier likes getting forward down the right and this time he earns a free-kick on the edge of the area when Danny Graham brings him down.

  3. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

A change is afoot for Sunderland. Jack Rodwell is about to come on.

  4. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

The bright sunshine at White Hart Lane caused Tottenham's defenders some problems in the first half, and it is Sunderland's turn to deal with it now.

Kieran Trippier's teasing cross found Harry Kane as Spurs came forward for the first time since the restart, but he could not get enough on his shot to trouble Jordan Pickford.

  5. YELLOW CARD

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

He has stayed out of trouble for 46 minutes but Lee Cattermole has just been booked by referee Mike Dean after sending Danny Rose tumbling. That is the first yellow card of the afternoon.

  6. KICK-OFF

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

Sunderland will get the second half started. The Black Cats are level on points with Swansea in 17th place as things stand, but will remain in the relegation zone on goal difference if this game ends 1-1.

  7. Pickford helping to frustrate Spurs

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

    .

Here's a graphic that gives you an indication of how that first half went. Tottenham had most of the possession, and also had 15 shots to Sunderland's three, but have been frustrated and are probably quite pleased to be level.

A big reason for that is young Black Cats keeper Jordan Pickford, who has made three excellent saves on his Premier League debut.

James Liggins: I'm gonna say it… This game's been like waiting for a bus: you wait ages for 1 goal, then 2 come in a minute.

  9. 'It probably is the time for Andros to move on'

    Tottenham 0-0 Sunderland

    Clive Allen

Former Tottenham & England forward at White Hart Lane for 5 live Sport

    Andros Townsend

"Andros Townsend is the subject of some interest from Newcastle. He's been frustrated with a lack of football this season, and it probably is the time for Andros to move on. But of course it all depends on the right fee..."

  10. Townsend on his way to the Toon?

Some transfer news for you now, involving Spurs AND the north-east - so, very topical.

Newcastle and Tottenham are in talks, albeit at a very early stage over Andros Townsend. Newcastle approached Spurs yesterday about his availability and are now weighing up a bid for permanent transfer.

  11. 'The paint will be peeling off in that Sunderland dressing room!'

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

    Clive Allen

Former Tottenham & England forward at White Hart Lane for 5 live Sport

"We have a game in the balance with the honours even at half-time. And rightly so.

"But Spurs' equaliser was the very worst thing that could have happened to Sunderland, straight after going in front. I know Big Sam will be livid about that - the paint will be peeling off in that Sunderland dressing room!"

  12. Van Aanholt finds the finish - again

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

Just 92 seconds between the two goals in that first half and neither manager will be pleased with the defending that let them happen.

Dele Alli and Kieran Trippier were both caught out by Patrick van Aanholt's (number three in the graphic below) run to get on the end of Adam Johnson's perfectly-weighted pass to put Sunderland ahead. They had some warning that he likes to get forward - Van Aanholt has now scored in three successive games.

  13. HALF-TIME

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

  14. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

Tottenham are pressing hard for a second goal in first-half injury time but Jordan Pickford comes to Sunderland's rescue again, clawing a Christian Eriksen shot round his post.

  15. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

That was exciting, wasn't it? Sunderland have also seen a Jermain Defoe free-kick saved by Hugo Lloris, but it looks like we will reach half-time with the score level... or will we?

  16. 'Sam Allardyce is absolutely furious!'

    Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

    Clive Allen

Former Tottenham & England forward at White Hart Lane for 5 live Sport

    Sam Allardyce

"Adam Johnson's ball in is brilliant, van Aarnholt times his run to perfection, gets the ball out from under his feet and drills in his shot. It flies into the corner to give Sunderland the lead.

"But look, Sam Allardyce is absolutely furious! Sunderland just fell asleep having gone in front. The ball was fired in by Eriksen and Cattermole will know he should have cleared it. He's paid a big price."

  17. GOAL - Tottenham 1-1 Sunderland

    Christian Eriksen

Sunderland's lead lasts a matter of seconds. Harry Kane's shot is charged down by Jordan Pickford after he breaks into the box, but the rebound falls for Christian Eriksen. Lee Cattermole is on the line and should deal with Eriksen's shot but he gets in a tangle and can only help it into the net, via the bar. All-square again.

    Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur
  18. GOAL - Tottenham 0-1 Sunderland

    Patrick van Aanholt

Against the run of play, yes, but Sunderland have the lead.

Adam Johnson finds Patrick van Aanholt darting into the box down the left, and he fires a low finish past Hugo Lloris.

    Patrick van Aanholt
  19. Post update

    Tottenham 0-0 Sunderland

The Black Cats are still trying to catch Spurs on the break when the home side lose the ball but no luck with that so far. Toby Alderweireld is keeping a close eye on Jermain Defoe and is across to cover.

  20. Post update

    Tottenham 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland are dropping deeper and deeper as we move closer to the end of the first half.
