    West Ham 1-1 Man City

Kevin de Bruyne - still looks like a student who has found his way into the Premier League to me. He sets Gael Clichy who finds Jesus Navas in the box but his touch is heavy.

Now the counter-attack and Michail Antonio has Martin Demichelis committed... HACKED DOWN... that will be a red will it? No.

The referee decides there is cover and with a slightly worried look on his face, Demichelis takes his yellow.

Manchester City build and Bacary Sagna will cross, cleared.

They recycle things and Sergio Aguero will shoot from 20 yards, no. David Silva got in his way. Instead he picks out a powerful run from Yaya Toure but the pass is a yard too far ahead of the Ivorian.

West Ham are carrying most of their threats down the left flank. Dimitri Payet is down that side, faced by Bacary Sagna.

City are also using their left side to attack West Ham's new right-back Sam Byram. David Silva seeing plenty of the ball out wide as 62% of their play is down that flank.

Always good to get a player's perspective on a game, so here's a bit more from Jack Collison.

Cheikhou Kouyate is back in the fray and tries to play a one-two with Enner Valencia. It's a tough ask as the return pass is fizzed across the box. Usain Bolt would have struggled to make that one.

Cheikhou Kouyate is hacked down to the deck by Yaya Toure and the locals want a yellow, instead they get nothing. It looks like Toure got a bit of his man before eventually flicking the ball.

It could prove key, here come City, it will fall to Sergio Aguero 18 yards out and..... oh. Well that's new, an air shot.

Dimitri Payet tries an outside of the boot pass in search of Enner Valencia but Martin Demichelis mops up.

We have a slight lull in proceedings and a David Silva corner doesn't change things.

The ball works its way back to Silva though and a neat one-two gets him in a great crossing positions... inside the area he blasts across goal but it's hooked clear.

Enner Valencia's opener after 53 seconds was the 2nd quickest goal scored in the Premier League this season. Matt Ritchie's goal against Spurs inside 49 seconds, remains the quickest so far.

A roar from the home fans as Sam Byram plays a good ball in the early stages of his West Ham debut.

There is space for Manchester City to exploit here. David Silva is being typically sneaky, picking up areas behind the home midfield.

Did West Ham just make Manchester City angry by scoring so early? The visitors have dominated the opening stages and it could be a long afternoon ahead of the Hammers.

Former Premier League manager Neil Warnock: "I am really pleased for Sam Byram. I put him in the squad at Leeds when the Academy staff told me he wasn't good enough. He has lots to learn but he is a good learner and he'll graft his socks off.

"He is a Kyle Walker type right-back. A good signing for West Ham. He has lots of family who are West Ham fans too."

Not the 10 minutes Carl Jenkinson visualised.

A foul, a penalty given away and he hurt himself in the process. A long spell of treatment sees new signing Sam Byram warm up. Jenkinson wants to come back on but it looks like the new boy is going to get a run here.

Farewell Jenks. Don't have too many nightmares. On comes Byram.

Well they were warned. No sooner does Sergio Aguero hit the woodwork is he felled in the area.

Do you really need me to tell you what happened next? Yep, you guessed it. Bottom corner, keeper the wrong way.

  18. PENALTY TO MAN CITYpublished at 8 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Man City

Sergio Aguero gets a critical touch to the ball just as Carl Jenkinson is about to make a tackle. It's cruel in some ways, the full-back was inches away from a good tackle but instead gives away a certain penalty.

    SERGIO AGUERRROOO.... stunning.

Wonderful stuff from the Argentine who gets some space off the shoulder of his man and lobs Adrian expertly. It's audacious and the ball bounces agonisingly against the post.

    That would have been sublime.

    West Ham 1-0 Man City

Manchester City need to shake themselves down. Their response is admirable in that they get a territorial foothold but aside from a blocked Jesus Navas shot, little on offer.

What a start for West Ham.

I can confirm by the way that Alex Song has those glasses on which make him look like a wasp.
