The final is 50-50. We are going into the game with a lot of desire. Two good teams are meeting and we expect a very, very tough game. River Plate worry us as a block. I think they are a strong team and they have quality players.

It would have to be a perfect game for us to have any chance. Barcelona are a very complete team, it's a big challenge for us and we are going to have to play very intelligently and be very intense to have a chance.

"The fans of River Plate have taken over Tokyo. Around 15,000 supporters have made the long trip from Argentina.

"The supporters can certainly lay claim to the best in the world – especially after sticking by their club when things weren’t going so well – relegation, financial problems, you name it they’ve been through it.

"And that’s why the team are so determined to put on a good performance."

  8. A brief world championship historypublished at 10:22

Barcelona have won this tournament twice since it became an annual event in 2005.

In 2009 they beat Argentine club Estudiantes in extra time and in 2011 they beat Santos 4-0 (with Neymar playing for the Brazilians).

River Plate have never won this competition but they did win the 1986 Intercontinental Cup (basically the old world club championship), beating Steaua Bucharest 1-0.

  9. 'River are more fun since revival'published at 10:19

River Plate general manager Gustavo Silikovich has been talking to BBC World Service about this game - and the club's one year in the second tier in 2011-12.

"The most important team in Argentina being demoted to the second division was terrible, unbelievable," he said. "You can’t imagine Manchester United going into the second division.

"You need to manage the club in a very bad way to send River to the second division. That day was something we’d like to erase from our minds.

"We enjoy the victories much more than five or six years before. We won a lot of titles before and we were used to it.

"But after 2011 we realised we need to enjoy every victory and title. We are more fun now than we were before. We have the smartest coach in the world. We are confident that Barcelona will have a very hard match."

Barca - better in 2009 or now?

I thought that initially but when I looked they had Samuel Eto'o, Thierry Henry and Messi in 2009 so still pretty tasty.

In 2009, under Pep Guardiola, Barcelona won all six trophies.

This year they have only missed out on the Spanish Super Cup, with Lionel Messi admitting "that time we won, everything looked unrepeatable. We weren't sure if we'd get close to it again. And here we are".

How does this Barcelona team rank compared to 2009? Can any club in the world match them at the moment - or are they just miles better than the rest?
