  1. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 56 mins

Luis Suarez beats the offside trap this time and hits the post for Barcelona after a great flick from Ivan Rakitic.

And Neymar then gets beyond Espanyol's defence but his cross-shot is saved by the keeper.

We're on the verge of a goal, I can feel it.

  2. Postpublished at 53 mins

As I say that Hernan Perez goes on a jinking run for Espanyol, gets into the box but then fires wide. This is becoming a good game.

  3. Postpublished at 52 mins

Much better from Barcelona and Lionel Messi's shot is deflected over for a corner. You feel a goal is coming now, the first time in this game I've thought that.

  4. Postpublished at 50 mins

Andres Iniesta has the ball in the net but the flag had already gone up for offside after Espanyol's defence stepped up to catch Luis Suarez off. By the time he played the ball across to the midfielder, they knew it wouldn't count.

  5. Postpublished at 48 mins

This is almost the closest Barcelona have come. Luis Suarez gets into the box but he gets his pull back wrong and Neymar's shot is blocked. Better start though from the champions.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:00

Barcelona get the second half under way. Can they score (at least) one?

  7. Postpublished at 15:58

Barcelona's players are in the tunnel at the Power8 and we should be under way in the next 180 seconds or so.

  8. Deal glee for Barca Bpublished at 15:56

Barcelona's B team have been busy in the transfer market.

In comes Brazilian youngster Robert Goncalves on loan from Fluminense for the rest of the season.

The forward is 19 according to most sources, although the story on Barca's website says he is 20.

They have also signed Xemi and Moises Delgado and had also recruited Sergi Guardiola - before cancelling his contract after finding that he had published offensive tweets about the club and Catalonia.

Captain and left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, 20, has been sold to Benfica for about £1.1m.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:45

No injury time needed because barely anything has happened. It's level at the break.

  12. Postpublished at 45 mins

Andres Iniesta drags a shot wide - only Barcelona's third effort of the game. Espanyol's keeper has yet to make a save.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 43 mins

Joan Jordan becomes the third Espanyol player to be booked - this time for pulling Lionel Messi back by the head.

  14. Postpublished at 41 mins

Barcelona have had about 75% possession so far and win a corner after Dani Alves' cross is put out of play. The hosts have defended very solidly so far.

  15. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 37 mins

Barcelona have a free-kick maybe 25 yards out and Lionel Messi hits a brilliant curling effort which hits exactly the corner of goalpost and crossbar. The keeper was rooted to the ground.

  16. Postpublished at 35 mins

The free-kick is slammed right into some Barcelona players - the visitors counter attack at speed but a pass to Dani Alves is overhit and goes out for a goal-kick. A waste from Luis Enrique's side.

  17. Postpublished at 34 mins

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano handles the ball just outside the box and it's a free-kick. Inches away from being a penalty.

    He's already been booked remember...

  18. Postpublished at 32 mins

Espanyol captain Javi Lopez is booked for shoving Neymar over from behind. The Brazilian went down easily mind.

Just the hour for Lopez to avoid a second booking against Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar now...

  19. Postpublished at 30 mins

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique clears the ball off the line but we've still only had one shot, off target, by Barcelona.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 26 mins

Espanyol's Alvaro and Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano start pushing each other in the box and they're both booked. Another referee might have sent Alvaro off there - lucky escape.
