West Ham have a free-kick about 35-40 yards out but that doesn't stop Enner Valencia having a pop at goal. It's a decent effort as well but goes just wide.

In a strange way that sending-off has made it harder for West Ham. Villa had plenty of attacking intent with 11 men but have dropped back and locked up shop with 10.

Villa have regrouped well after Jordan Ayew's red card. They are looking organised as West ham struggle for ideas. James Collins tries an ambitious shot from about 40 yards before James Tomkins shins one over.

West Ham are struggling to get their attacking game going. Alex Song puts in a nice touch as he helps set up Michail Antonio for a shot which the winger drags wide.

What a miss. James Tomkins powers a ball across the Villa box and, from four yards, Enner Valencia heads over. He won't want to see a replay of that.

Villa have a free-kick and referee Jon Moss gesticulates for them to hurry up as they take their time taking it. Bit early for time-wasting tactics but it might be Villa's best hope.

Villa keeper Mark Bunn saves a Cheikhou Kouyate shot as this could be a damage limitation exercise for the visitors. 

Jordan Ayew might not want to hang around at Upton Park as he won't be popular in the Villa camp. With his side on top, his sending off has breathed some life into the Hammers as they look to capitalise on their numerical advantage.

What was Jordan Ayew doing? He's being marked by Aaron Cresswell and lashes out with an elbow to floor the Hammers defender. Easy decision for Jon Moss and Villa boss Remi Garde is left shaking his head and doesn't even look at his forward as he makes his exit. 

It's all Villa at the moment but can they manage to get a goal to reward their bright start?

Aston Villa have a penalty shout. A cross from Gabriel Agbonlahor hits the arm of Hammers winger Michail Antonio, who has his back turned but his arm out. Decent shout for Villa but referee Jon Moss says no.

Villa have got West Ham on the back foot. Carles Gil has a shot easily saved but there's plenty of attacking intent from the visitors.

Aston Villa win a corner and they go close. Hammers keeper Adrian is blocked as he comes out to punch the ball and defender Winston Reid puts the ball over from the goalmouth. That could easily have gone wrong. Adrian then punches away the resulting corner.

Barry Martin: Get ready for it...This is the start of the greatest escape in Premier League history. The game where it all changed for Villa.

West Ham have a free-kick but Dimitri Payet puts in a poor delivery which is unlike him. He gets the ball back and runs to the byeline before his pull-back is put out of play.
