The world's two best players sat side-by-side earlier to face pre-Ballon d'Or questions. I reckon the words accompanying this picture could well have been...

Ronaldo to journalists: "Of course I am going to win tonight. It's almost inevitable."

Messi to Ronaldo: "You must have been drinking the free booze..."

Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo dashed back to their hotel rooms after those snaps, returning suited and booted to the Zurich Kongresshaus a short time ago.

The trio, among tens of other famous footballers (and Leona Lewis), have shimmied up the red carpet, signing countless autographs for the baying mob lined up alongside the red carpet.

Former X Factor winner Leona is providing the tunes later on if you're wondering what she is doing there...

No self-respecting awards ceremony is complete without a celeb-attracting 'Twitter Mirror'. And have a guess which three men stared into Fifa's 'selfie' camera earlier?

Hello! Unfortunately there is little chance of you sneaking in through the side door to bag a seat at one of the tables occupied by the great and the good of the footballing world. That penguin suit or snazzy new frock will have to gather dust in the wardrobe for another year.

But don't worry. Over the next couple of hours we will be bringing you all the news, goss and pictures from the Zurich Kongresshaus as it happens.

You will feel so close to the action that you'll almost be able to smell the pricey aftershave/perfume slapped over the world's most greatest footballers.

With the ability of an average Sunday League footballer, I am never likely to know which category a Fifa shindig falls into.

But I'd take an educated guess that the chances of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar boozily stumbling around the darkened room in their gladrags are slim.

Let's find out. Welcome to the Fifa Ballon d'Or 2015.

Industry awards ceremonies can be a mixed bag.

They can be tedious affairs for those bunged on a table with suited strangers, shuffling uncomfortably in your seat as you make small talk, all the while considering whether to snaffle the last piece of crusty French bread or not.

For others, they can be quite raucous as the free bubbly is quaffed at an alarming rate in a rare office outing.
