Now then. Just before Gabriel Agbonlahor scored I was about to congratulate Villa for having their second shot on target the whole game - a tame effort by Agbonlahor.

But they're now 2-0 up! And Norwich have it all to do. Else they're on their way into the bottom three...

    What is Declan Rudd doing!?

Jordan Veretout plays in a ball from the left wing, it's opportunistic more than anything really, but Rudd is caught out - he comes charging for the ball, gets nowhere near, and Gabriel Agbonlahor strokes the ball into an empty net for his first goal of the season.

Mark Bunn is scrambling after Wes Hoolahan's deflected cross but he can't keep it out. Corner... which comes to naught.

I think that's the first time I've mentioned Hoolahan, so often Norwich's best performer earlier this season.

Norwich are first back out. I can imagine Alex Neil was an angry man in that dressing room...

Now then. It's been a very poor game, but that changes things!

"It's not been a great game if I'm honest. Villa are not a creative team this season, but that one moment of Gil quality has the hosts in the lead, thanks to Lescott making a little contact."

    Joleon Lescott (45 mins)

Joleon Lescott provides it! The centre-back climbs high at the back stick to nod home Carles Gil's free-kick.

It took a deflection off the defender and the keeper on the way in. And could Declan Rudd have come to collect? A goal deserving of the game so far.

Every time Villa find Gabriel Agbonlahor he turns back and Norwich can get man behind the ball. If a cross does then come in, it's too easy to defend, nobody's there to attack it.

Man this game needs a goal.

Dancing feet from Robbie Brady to skirt tight to the line down the left, and then Jonny Howson wakes the game from its slumber with a lovely turn in midfield.

Brady looks to play in Dieumerci Mbokani, but the Norwich man is offside for the second time in two minutes. Can't blame him for nodding off.

There are two angry men on the sidelines. Remi Garde and Alex Neil should stage an intervention now, forget half-time, it's the moral thing to do.

At the moment neither side deserves much from this Ria, but Norwich are probably just about edging it.

Ten minutes to go before the break... In that time this could transform into a thriller...

Free-kick Villa. Jordan Veretout felled by the bearded Gary O'Neil. That Norwich chance seems to have woken up the home fans a bit, but they're about to be disappointed...

It's Carles Gil who steps up, looking to bend one in on his left. Always rising. Not a good one.

Idrissa Gueye gives the ball away and Villa should be punished. With the home defence looking to push up the field, Russell Martin can cross from the right to find Sebastien Bassong, who heads down into the ground, and it bounces over the bar.

    Best opening so far.

At least Steven Naismith is trying. A really sharp turn outside the box, driving in on goal... drags his shot wide though.

Granted, the weather isn't helping matters (the rain is really driving down), but there hasn't been a lot to get excited about so far. Very quiet, and so have the fans been.

I'd love my next entry after that to have been an Gabriel Agbonlahor goal, but alas it is not to be. We do have the first shot on target though! Dieumerci Mbokani, straight at Mark Bunn, who parries out when he should have held it.

The rain is pelting it down. Remi Garde is getting drenched, but somehow his hair seems to be avoiding the worst of it...

There is some tidy build-up play from Villa - especially from Carles Gil, but lone forward Gabriel Agbonlahor isn't exactly striking fear in the heart of the Norwich defence. Doesn't look like he's got a goal in him, for my money.

Carles Gil looks lively. Stepovers aplenty. He's Villa's top scorer on the pitch today. With how many goals?
