    Martin Fisher
Match of the Day commentator at St James' Park

"No lift-off yet for Newcastle United despite their huge outlay in the January transfer window.

"In what is their only home game in a 49-day period, Steve McClaren needs his new faces to light up St James' Park with a victory as they try to stay in touch with those clubs just above them in the relegation zone.

"Albion sit eight points above their hosts but aren't out of the woods just yet.

"Unconvincing home draws against fellow strugglers Swansea and Aston Villa have renewed familiar fears, although a draw in this one will be received more favourably."

Newcastle v West Brom (15:00 GMT)

Despite more than £100m spent in two windows, it's five defeats in seven games for Newcastle, they sit third off the bottom and face yet another a fight to avoid the drop - it's Groundhog season for Magpies fans.

There is no doubt Newcastle have spent well, but will the players gel in time? Can the manager/head coach inspire a squad perennially short of confidence?

The Baggies aren't completely out of danger, but they are a difficult side to beat.

They have conceded the fewest goals of the bottom eight clubs and have only lost one in the last six.

Manager Tony Pulis might not have the funds, but he does the best with what he's got. He even gets Saido Berahino playing for him (fitness issues permitting).
