One corner of White Hart Lane has a pleasing, nostalgia-tinged rough patch on it with some dead grass. Don't see much of that these days.

Another corner for Spurs. This game needs to kick into life.

    Tottenham 0-0 Watford

Spurs win another corner, Mousa Dembele helps it on but Heurelho Gomes makes a strong claim against his old club. The game is just going a bit flat.

    Tottenham 0-0 Watford

Watford now with their first spell of play since the first 90 seconds, they keep the ball nicely and sweep upfield, with Nathan Ake eventually winning a free-kick wide on the left.

    Tottenham 0-0 Watford

Kieran Tripper and Ben Davies are playing as wingers for Spurs, really stretching the pitch. Watford's five-man midfield are well drilled though. Can Spurs break them down?

    Tottenham 0-0 Watford

Spurs with 73% of the opening stages as Tottenham probe and push. Plenty of width from the full-backs but no end product as of yet. It's a happy camp at White Hart Lane though, buoyant from both sets of fans.

Christian Eriksen skids a shot into the wall though, poor effort from the Dane.

Christian Eriksen, in the number 10 role he prefers this afternoon, starts a flowing attack down the right but Kieran Trippier's cross is cleared away.

    Tottenham 0-0 Watford

No Troy Deeney for Watford today so it's Etienne Capoue closest to Odion Ighalo in attack. Ighalo is very much up on his own though. Even start, Spurs stroking the ball around neatly.

  18. Spurs squad set to be testedpublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2016

    Tottenham v Watford (15:00 GMT)

    John Motson
BBC Match of the Day commentator at White Hart Lane

"Tottenham have put themselves in contention for the Premier League title but one of the obstacles in their way is the impending fixture congestion.

"They are still in the FA Cup, of course, and the Europa League is looming. It's going to be a test of Maurico Pochettino's squad; he has strength in depth - and he's going to need it.

"Their next game after this one is away at Manchester City so it's fair to say it's approaching crunch time for Spurs.

"Watford have come through a tricky patch and only need seven points to reach the perceived safety mark of 40 points.

"They, and the front two of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney in particular, are well capable of stalling Tottenham's progress."
