Everton are finishing the game strongly. A powerful run by Romelu Lukaku almost results in a fourth goal but Villa just about clear the danger. More and more Villa fans are leaving.

There's more urgency about Villa in the closing stages but Everton's defence is doing its job. 

Villa fans are departing Villa Park in large numbers in the 74th minute in protest at owner Randy Lerner. A supporters group urged supporters to leave with 16 minutes remaining - Villa were formed in 1874 - and many have done so.

One small crumb for Villa...Sunderland, having led, are now losing at home to Crystal Palace. It means Remi Garde's side are eight points from safety at the bottom of the table instead of 10.

The mood remains ugly inside Villa Park. Home fans are making their feelings known towards Randy Lerner as the hosts make their first change - Rudy Gestede in place of Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Everton would be further ahead but for Brad Guzan. Moments before Lukaku's goal the Villa keeper produced a flying save to keep out the Belgium international's header.

Villa respond through Ashley Westwood, who twice goes close to equalising but those efforts cannot mask another desperate performance from Remi Garde's side.

Tonight's attendance has just been announced - 29,755 including about 3,000 Everton fans. It's the visiting supporters who are making all the noise.

Another chorus of boos breaks out as an aimless kick by Brad Guzan goes straight out of play and hands possession back to Everton.

Where is the passion in this Villa team?

No real change to the pattern of play. Villa are struggling to string two passes together while Everton continue to dominate possession. No sign of urgency from the hosts.

Roberto Martinez is last out of the tunnel. He stops to sign an autograph on his way to the dugout. The Spaniard can afford to relax. His Everton side are well on top.
