"It was a lovely move by City, a great exchange with Silva and he has volleyed it in. He was only seven yards out, he had got himself past the defence, who were caught out.

    Sergio Aguero (60 mins)

This should wrap up the points for City, and it is a well-worked goal too. Sergio Aguero exchanges passes with David Silva and buries a low shot past Brad Guzan. It sounds routine, but Silva's return ball was perfectly weighted, and the finish was unstoppable.

Just damage limitation for Villa now, it seems.

Another over-hit cross by Villa, and it is even more costly this time. Gabby Agbonlahor did brilliantly to get to the by-line and looked up to see Alan Hutton unmarked and shouting for the ball as he arrived at the far post.

Agbonlahor tried to find him, too, but got too much on his delivery and it looped over Hutton's head.

Villa are trying to break when they win back possession but they are not getting enough numbers forward quickly enough. In any case, Alan Hutton's cross is over-hit and sails into Joe Hart's arms.

Not much of a response from Villa since those two quickfire City goals. They still have everyone behind the ball when the home side come into their half.

    Sergio Aguero (50 mins)

Blimey, City cannot stop scoring now. They rely a lot on Villa's help here, admittedly, with Micah Richards sliding in to attempt to clear Wilfried Bony's through-ball, but firing the ball against Sergio Aguero and seeing it rebound past Brad Guzan and into the net.

    Yaya Toure (48 mins)

Villa's defensive wall is finally breached. That isn't a massive achievement when you look at how many goals they have conceded this season, but City were making heavy weather of it... until now.

Sergio Aguero's cutback found David Silva and he teed up Yaya Toure to steer the ball home.

The second half starts where the first one left off, with Wilfried Bony losing the ball with a bad touch. Villa, as you probably expect, are defending very deep and in numbers.

Here's how that first half looked in a graphical form. Not much happened in City's area, but Jordan Ayew almost made Villa's one shot count.

City had 13 shots to Villa's one in that first half, but clear-cut chances were few and far between for Manuel Pellegrini's men.

"Navas looks like the only man who might stretch the Villa defence on the right flank. I don't know how many times Lescott has had to hook the ball out from the six yard box. I might give Kolarov a go on the left to balance it."

No goals yet, but we have had a booking. Jordan Veretout gets shown a yellow card for lunge on Sergio Aguero.

City are getting the ball into wide areas and trying to get crosses in for Wilfried Bony, but it is not working at the moment. Bony just sent one glancing header wide, then was penalised for a foul on Alan Hutton as he tried to get on the end of Sergio Aguero's hooked delivery.

It has not been the Ivorian's day so far.

City need to move the ball quicker, as well as more accurately, if they are going to break Villa down. It is too easy for Remi Garde's side at the moment.

You certainly couldn't call this City display fluid. They are still seeing most of the ball - and have had  76% of the possession - but their final ball has just not been good enough.

City have another corner, their seventh of the game. This time Jesus Navas sends it in, but Nicolas Otamendi's header does not test Brad Guzan.

"City have had a lot of the ball, but they are not convincing in the last third especially in the last 10 minutes. I think they need to add a bit of width to their game."

Fair to say that Wilfried Bony will not have won over any doubting Man City fans with his performance so far today. This time he finds space to meet a corner but plants his header about 10 yards wide.
