Summary

  • Victory sends Middlesbrough top

  • Gaston Ramirez scores both of Boro's goals

  • Ben Gibson's own goal a late consolation for Wolves

  1. Middlesbrough 2-0 Wolvespublished at 63 mins

Middlesbrough are showboating. Adam Clayton tears open the Wolves defence to find Gaston Ramirez who plays George Friend in the box but he fires wide. The whole passing movement was like something you'd see in the Nou Camp, not at the Riverside..

In contrast, Wolves are completely ineffective up front. They have failed to score in their last three away league matches and it's showing. Could this be a fourth?

  2. Middlesbrough 2-0 Wolvespublished at 60 mins

Emilio Nsue strides completely unmarked into the Wolves half and curls just wide of the Carl Ikeme's right-hand post.

There is absolutely no let up from Middlesbrough here.

    GOAL (Ramirez)published at 56 mins

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Wolves

Wow. What. A. Goal. Gaston Ramirez strolls through the Wolves defence far too easily, plays a clever one-two with George Friend and curls a lovely ball into the back of Carl Ikeme's net.

    That is quite a finish.

  4. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 55 mins

Those 21,000 or so Middlesbrough fans have not piped down all night. A respectable following from Wolves given the circumstances, but they haven't had much to shout about.

Albert Adomah almost takes Wolves captain Danny Batth out on the touchline. The Boro midfielder concedes a goal kick but the hosts break back again.

Emilio Nsue wrong-foots Jeremy Helan and runs goal-bound but Kortney Hause pulls off a superb sliding tackle to clear the danger.

Middlesbrough winning fans it seems, with Steve Gibson's investment at Boro getting a tip of the cap.

  7. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 48 mins

It's end-to-end stuff at the Riverside. Nathan Byrne catches out the Middlesbrough back line and tees up (excuse the pun) Bjorn Sigurdarson, but the hosts win possession and go on the break.

Christhian Stuani strides with the ball to Wolves' box, but somehow the visitors clear the ball. What an opening two or three minutes. Game on!

  8. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 46 mins

A magnificent save from Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme just seconds after the restart! Jordan Rhodes latches on to Albert Adomah's curled cross into the box and the Middlesbrough striker's close-range header is well-saved by Ikeme.

Middlesbrough have not been the only ones looking to go top before the weekend, with Hull City failing in their efforts to go above Burnley on Thursday after going down 1-0 to Birmingham City.

The only goal of the game came on 14 minutes when Jon Toral's low, left-footed drive went in off ex-Blues defender Curtis Davies.

As it stands, Middlesbrough will be top of the Championship tonight.

It's been a dominant display from Aitor Karanka's side who lead through Gaston Ramirez's header. Meanwhile, Wolves have looked lifeless and without a clear plan on how they are going to break Middlesbrough down and force an equaliser.

Will there be any half-time changes? We shall see in around 15 minutes.

  14. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 45 mins

Gaston Ramirez curls a shot in at Carl Ikeme which the Wolves keeper saves, but he screams at his defenders.

Half time approaches shortly - Boro boss Aitor Karanka will be extremely happy with his side's first-half performance.

  15. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 43 mins

George Friend launches a pinpoint-accurate delivery into the path of Jordan Rhodes, but the ball clips the Scotsman's heels and the attack fizzles out.

With only one marker, that could have been a very dangerous attack for Middlesbrough.

  16. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 41 mins

Wolves really have their work cut out if they are to get anything, here. Despite a few minutes of posession, the front three of Jeremy Helan, Bjorn Sigurdarson and Nathan Byrne just aren't making enough penetrative runs into the Middlesbrough box and when they do, they're far too easily closed down.

Byrne tries a speculative effort from 20 yards out which nearly ends up in the River Tees. The story of Wolves' night so far.

  17. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 37 mins

Kevin McDonald bosses his way through the midfield but Wolves just can't seem to find a way through the Middlesbrough back-line. Former Wolves man George Friend is untroubled by Bjorn Sigurdarson and the hosts clear the ball once more.

  18. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 33 mins

There is quite the atmosphere inside the Riverside tonight. Middlesbrough's supporters are in fine voice - and why not? It's been a comfortable opening half hour for the hosts. Wolves have provided little attacking threat.

  19. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2016

  20. Middlesbrough 1-0 Wolvespublished at 30 mins

Jeremy Helan gallops through the left wing like Jeremy Corbyn atop a horse...but it comes to nothing as Nathan Byrne quickly loses possession after the Frenchman's neat lay-off.
