  1. CHANCE!published at 54 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Wayne Rooney to double the lead? But he can't control Memphis Depay's pass well enough to work it into space - a heavy touch and the chance to cut across the defence and unleash is gone.

Depay is looking lively though now, and the home side are committing much more to the attack. Will there be holes in behind?

If Marcus Rashford plays like this until the end of the season surely it would make sense to select him for Euros over Sturridge and Caroll, he's so much for confident than both of them

Marcus Rashford v Alan Hutton for pace? There's only going to be one winner. But the Villa defender does just enough with a seemingly desperate lunge to force Rashford wide when played through by Juan Mata - suggestions the United striker could have gone down?

And then moments later Rashford flashes an even better chance wide under heavy pressure from the Villa defence.

There is pace in the game!

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Manchester United get us back under way as a very relaxed-looking Louis van Gaal negotiates into his seat. No changes from either side.

Many talented young players fade. Rashford looks more suited for this level than for youth level. Special.

Hersi: If the England coach has guts he would take Rashford instead of Rooney for the Euros... Kid on !!

Connor Simpson: Take Rashford to France. He will score goals.

What's this? A really good chance for Aston Villa as Jordan Ayew has time to throw a few stepovers Marcos Rojo's way, looking to dance past his man into space for a shot, but the United defender stands strong to block.

Villa's best chance, but David De Gea still a spectator.

Wayne Rooney popping up in the Andrea Pirlo role here, looking to spray the ball long from in front of his defenders. It's Memphis Depay who's the target but Alan Hutton get his head there to clear. Not sure that would have happened to Pirlo.

Just under five to go until half-time. Can Villa claw one back? David De Gea is yet to be tested, I think he's touched the ball once today?

And with Fellaini looking strong in the centre, even when the away side do manage to string a few passes together they're going nowhere fast.

Nice, quick movement and slick passing from Manchester United again. Didn't think I'd be writing that too many times this afternoon. Aston Villa are quick to poke the ball out from Juan Mata's feet on the edge of the box though, and it's back to theme of 10 yellow men defending and those in red looking for a gap.

James Carter: WE HAVE SCORED IN THE FIRST HALF!! It is snowing in Manchester and there has been a goal in the first half. Weird day!

James Foster: Marcus Rashford... this lad is something special

Heelish Bishop: Aston Villa look like a team already resigned to their fate. Shame to go down with a whimper rather than a bang.

Marcus Rashford can do no wrong right now. That goal against West Ham in midweek was sumptuous, and this one certainly competes.

Oh, except over-hit this volleyed pass looking for Memphis Depay out wide. Depay is very much in Rashford's shade though - and not just in this match. Who saw that coming?

Maybe not! Lovely, lovely goal from Marcus Rashford, a little flick past the goalkeeper from Valencia's cut-back gives the home side the lead.

    And finally sends Villa down?

    Man Utd 0-0 Aston Villa

Corner number NINE for Manchester United but it again it comes to naught as Brad Guzan claims.

The away side look to be growing a bit here now. They're passing the ball much better. Are Louis van Gaal's side missing a trick not coming out all guns blazing?

Aston Villa have got a decent chance from a free-kick here, Westwood the one to swing it in...

But Fellaini dominates with the head to clear, and even though it falls to Kieran Richardson on the edge, he swipes high and wide on the bounce.

Not much quality on show so far. An hour more of this?

Lovely little chipped through ball from Wayne Rooney. He's not been too heavily involved so far but that was beautiful technique - a trademark sweep from deep behind the defence.

Juan Mata doesn't have the legs to match it though and Brad Guzan can let it run.

  20. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Aston Villa

Juan Mata with the chance to shoot! Out for a throw. That's not a good feeling. At least he doesn't have to go and get it?

He was played in by Marcus Rashford with a lovely little weighted pass. Rashford looking the brightest so far and the home fans know it.
