  1. 'Rooney has great value for England'published at 12:35 British Summer Time 24 April 2016

    Everton 1-2 Man Utd

    Shola Ameobi
    Ex-Nigeria striker on MOTD2 Extra

"Rooney, when fit, is England's best player, with his talent he can play anywhere. Before he was injured, he was scoring goals up top let's not forget. Kane and Vardy have since come to the fore but the fact he was out and people were saying he shouldn't be in the team? That wasn't fair. Rooney has great value for England. And he can play that central role."

Watching Aston Villa at the moment is like watching Pee Wee Herman go into a boxing match with Mike Tyson.

It's cruel, demeaning and hard to watch.

Another weekend and another defeat for the Midlanders, who are Championship bound.

This time it was Southampton who were the beneficiaries, mopping up a 4-2 win at Villa Park to keep their Europa League hopes alive.

Here's the report, maybe it's just one for Saints fans though.

  3. Van Gaal right to grumble about refs?published at 12:30 British Summer Time 24 April 2016

    Everton 1-2 Man Utd

    Jermaine Jenas
    Ex-Spurs & England midfielder on MOTD2 Extra

"I've been seriously bored by Manchester United at times this season, just like everyone else, but of late there has been a difference. And you can't argue with where they are now. Still chasing a top-four spot, and in an FA Cup final.

"The bigger problem is that connection between the fans and manager. Many fans will have been thinking after the match: Is there any chance of you just being happy Louis? I don't think we need to be complaining."

I believe Gerard Deulofeu is the first Everton player to stick his head above the parapet today. There will be a few Toffees stinging right now.

    Real Madrid beware?

    Perhaps.

Manchester City go into their first ever Champions League semi-final this week when they host Cristiano Ronaldo and friends in the first leg.

But the warm-up went well - as City beat Stoke 4-0 and rested captain Vincent Kompany and midfielder Kevin de Bruyne in the process.

The most impressive move of Saturday's action was Willian's swift arrival in Dubai.

Maybe that incredible mane of hair possessed by the Brazilian gives him the ability to travel through time and space?

Eden Hazard does not want Tottenham to win the title. Refreshing honesty or ill-judged comment? Discuss...

Sarah Lambert: Well, if the Spurs team weren't motivated enough before, they are now. Thanks Eden Hazard!

James Schofield: There'll be a lot of scrutiny of the difference in Chelsea's performance v Leicester and Spurs. Probably best to keep his mouth shut.

    Leicester v Swansea (16:15 BST)

What makes Hazard's comments that bit more tasty though, is that Chelsea play both Premier League title challengers before the end of the season.

Tottenham next week - Leicester on the final day.

If it goes to that last day, Chelsea could feasibly hand the title to Spurs...

This has got a few people talking.

Speaking on Match of the Day yesterday, Eden Hazard made it clear he did not want London rivals Tottenham to win the Premier League.

"We don't want - the fans, the club, the players - Tottenham to win the Premier League, but in football you never know," said Hazard.

"We hope for Leicester because they deserve to be champions this season, but we will see."

Match of the Day pundit Martin Keown said it was ill-advised.

Personally, I like to see footballers with human emotions and opinions - rather than robots.

We mentioned the PFA awards earlier, and one man who won't be replicating last season's success as PFA Player of the year is Eden Hazard.

Anonymous, distant, disinterested and average at times this season, he was one of a few Chelsea players who were given a spot of grief for allowing Jose Mourinho to get the sack in December.

But yesterday, he came alive again, scoring two goals in the Blues' 4-1 win over Bournemouth on his return from a five-game injury absence.

Take a look back at yesterday's report to get all the stats and analysis - I wrote it so you know it will be terrific.
