    Quote Message

"It was a typical Championship game, we controlled the first 25 minutes, but one mistake, we concede and the second 20 minutes they were better than us. We can't make one mistake, it can be dangerous. But we were better again second-half in the first 20 mins and scored two goals."

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka speaking to Sky Sports

If anyone on the QPR side deserved to be a winner tonight, then it was Alex Smithies.

The former Huddersfield custodian was chief-frustrator to the Teessiders, denying Jordan Rhodes and Leadbitter on several occasions.

His spot-kick save in particular merited some reward.

If Middlesbrough do eventually go up this season, then they might just point to this game as having been key to their progress.

Grant Leadbitter epitomised their belief, shrugging off a missed penalty to swing in a deadly corner that Gaston Ramirez nodded home.

Ben Gibson's winner soon after was backed up by a solid defensive effort, even under Rangers late pressure.

Five minutes of added time!? This will be tense...

  11. QPR 2-3 Middlesbroughpublished at 89 mins

Boro have a foot in that top-two but would be a bit more comfortable if they can win to get there rather than draw.

They will be two points clear rather than ahead on goal difference.

Inside the last minute. Alex Smithies goes long for QPR.

One of the best football games I have been to was at Union Berlin's Alte Forestei home. Lovely people, great story too.

Seb Polter was a key figure for them and looks just as at home here in the Championship.

Hasn't looked like scoring too often (bar that one that was ruled out) but brings others in the game.

  19. QPR 1-3 Middlesbroughpublished at 74 mins

    Alex Smithies again denying Middlesbrough.

Huddersfield try to play out from the back and Jordan Rhodes pounced on a loose ball but saw his shot blocked. Smithies stood him up beautifully.

    Corner comes to nothing.

  20. QPR 1-3 Middlesbroughpublished at 71 mins

Testament to Middlesbrough's organisation that they don't look ruffled by this little purple patch from QPR.

Junior Hoilett's introduction has given the hosts a bit of zest. His cut-back was turned in by Seb Polter but had gone behind first said the referee. Lucky let-off for Boro...
