Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen is a doubt for Sunday's pre-Euro 2016 warm-up match in Sweden, but Wales manager Chris Coleman says he "looks very good" having returned to training.

Coleman adds that Gareth Bale, who seemed to be struggling with cramp during Real Madrid's Champions League final win against rivals Atletico on Saturday, is in "better physical nick than some of our players".

85 caps for Wales and manager of the national team prior to his death, Gary Speed is still credited for the success of this crop of players.

His father, Roger, will stay with the Wales team in France this summer but it will be a bittersweet occasion.

"I'm an Englishman born in Chester but I'll be supporting Wales," he told BBC Wales Sport.

  9. Rob Phillips' predicted 23-man squadpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 31 May 2016

    Wales Euro 2016 squad announcement

    Rob Phillips
    BBC Wales Football Correspondent

Back in March, Rob Phillips picked who he thought would start for Wales in their opening game against Slovakia on 11 June with pundits Iwan Roberts and Danny Gabbidon. There have been a few changes since then, however:

"Chris Coleman’s job has been made easier by a number of withdrawals because of injury – with Adam Henley, Tom Bradshaw and Tom Lawrence out of the reckoning.

"With Joe Ledley expected to be named, that is also a huge boost to the Wales boss. Ledley is a key figure both on and off the field.

"I think the main decision comes down to how many defenders Coleman believes he needs and just how much he feels he needs to boost Wales’ goal getting capacity.

"Will David Cotterill be preferred to George Williams, perhaps? If any of Paul Dummett, David Vaughan and Emyr Huws miss out, they can feel really unlucky."

Goalkeepers (3): Wayne Hennessey, Daniel Ward, Owain Fon Williams.

Defenders (8): Ashley Williams (capt), James Chester, Ben Davies, James Collins, Chris Gunter, Neil Taylor, Jazz Richards, Paul Dummett.

Midfielders (8): Joe Ledley, Joe Allen, Jonathan Williams, David Edwards, Aaron Ramsey, Andy King, David Cotterill, Emyr Huws.

Forwards (4): Gareth Bale, Hal Robson-Kanu, Simon Church, Sam Vokes.

We'll know before long if Rob's got his prediction right.

There is a hushed sense of anticipation around Hensol Castle, where we are expecting the arrival of Chris Coleman.

Media are assembling in the main hall, while Football Association of Wales chief executive Jonathan Ford is in a separate room checking his mobile phone.

Whispers abound about the identity of the 23 players in Wales' Euro 2016 squad, but the FAW delegates here are staying tight-lipped.

Joe Ledley fractured his leg whilst playing for Crystal Palace in their 2-1 win against Stoke City on 7 May and is still recovering almost a month later.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who has made over 60 appearances for Wales, resumed light training in a pre-tournament training camp last week.

But will he make Chris Coleman's 23?

    Wales Euro 2016 squad announcement

Fresh from Saturday's Champions League triumph, Gareth Bale is a dead cert to be in Chris Coleman's 23.

But the Real Madrid star wants to cap off one European trophy with another as he targets winning the European Championships with Wales.

The former Tottenham and Southampton man powered Wales to qualification for this summer - scoring seven of the 11 goals Wales scored in qualifying - and could make the difference in a difficult group stage.

    Wales Euro 2016 squad announcement

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Sport Wales

"This is the squad I think Chris Coleman will pick and, with Joe Ledley's fitness concerns in mind, the midfield is arguably the most competitive area.

"Emyr Huws is an impressive young central midfielder with a bright future, but David Vaughan's experience is likely to mean the 41-cap Nottingham Forest player is favoured by Coleman.

"George Williams might be an unknown quantity for those unfamiliar with recent Wales squads but the Fulham winger is one of the few players at Coleman's disposal who offers pace and width."

Goalkeepers (3): Wayne Hennessey, Danny Ward, Owain Fon Williams.

Defenders (7): Chris Gunter, James Chester, Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, Neil Taylor, James Collins, Jazz Richards.

Midfielders (8): Joe Allen, Joe Ledley, Aaron Ramsey, Andy King, David Edwards, Jonny Williams, David Vaughan, George Williams.

    Wales Euro 2016 squad announcement

In 1958, Wales were managed by Jimmy Murphy and Harold Macmillan was Prime Minister.

In spite of the nickname Supermac, he did not play up front for Newcastle United - that was Malcolm MacDonald 13 years later.

Bolton Wanderers won the FA Cup and Wolverhampton Wanderers won the First Division.

The only thing this year has in common with 1958 is Wales have qualified for a major tournament.
