We’ve tried to embrace it. I don’t think it’s perfect. I do think at this stage of the season more subs could be allowed, that could be increased to five. I think that’s one thing that could be looked at, but other than that I think it’s been good. It’s created a bit of interest, got a bit of profile for the Scottish game when there’s not much football going on.

Motherwell are another Premiership side who need a win tonight, at home to East Stirlingshire, who dropped out of the SPFL last season.  The hosts include 24-year-old midfielder Craig Clay, a trialist who has signed a short-term deal after being released by Grimsby.  Striker Scott McDonald also returns from injury.

    Alloa v Ross Co (19:30), Dunfermline v Inverness (19:45)

We're approaching the end of this initial phase of the League Cup. Some teams will have completed their four games tonight. There are three more fixtures tomorrow, and then a final round of fixtures this weekend.

Holders Ross Country could be in a bit of bother if they don't win at League One Alloa - who have won their first two games - tonight. Fellow Highlanders Inverness CT also need a result at Dunfermline. You can listen to commentary from East End Park on Sportsound on Radio Scotland, 810MW.  Click the link above for all the build-up.

Remember the eight group winners, plus the four best runners-up, progress to join Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs in the second round on 9/10 August.
