A few jeers from the home fans. Watford are good value for their lead

Shane Long is receiving treatment after two challenges in quick succession - the second by Craig Cathcart - leaves him sprawled out on the grass. The forward receives generous applause as he climbs back to his feet. Four minutes of additional time signalled by the fourth official.

Southampton are finally coming alive as the clock ticks down to half-time. Nathan Redmond has a go from outside the area but he fails to test Heurelho Gomes.

Not too much from Nathan Redmond so far. Southampton's new £10m winger tries to tee- up a chance for himself just outside the area but ends up playing a stray pass.

Southampton's fans have gone quiet. This is far too comfortable for Watford. The Saints need some inspiration. But where is it going to come from?

There's a stoppage in play while Heurelho Gomes receives treatment for what looks like a hamstring problem. There's a flurry of activity on Watford's bench where second-choice stopper Costel Pantilimon is wondering whether he is going to come on. Gomes carries on for now.

Dusan Tadic ties Watford's defence in knots before setting up Shane Long with a terrific cross but the Southampton striker heads wastefully wide from close range. That was a big chance.

Cedric Soares played in Portugal's Euro 2016 final win over France but he's having an uncomfortable time against Watford.

He's just over-hit a pass which brings a Saints move to an end and is greeted with a chorus of cheers by Watford's travelling fans.

James Ward-Prowse lets fly from 30 yards. It appears to hit a yellow shirt before going behind but no corner is given. Claude Puel has his first argument with the fourth official.

Walter Mazzarri is also wearing a suit with no tie on what is a muggy day at St Mary's He's out his seat demanding more from his Watford players but the Italian will surely be pleased with what he has seen so far.

What is catching my eye is Watford. They seem to be very confident on the ball and once they get into the final third out wide they cross it and they are getting players in the box. It looks a very simple philosophy and they look comfortable playing it.

Etienne Capoue's goal was the first Watford have scored against Southampton since 2009. The Hornets have not beaten the Saints since 2008. Is that about to change?

Watford have had one shot on target - and made it count.

Nordin Amrabat has made a terrific start. He's causing Southampton plenty of problems with his attacking runs down the wing.

Southampton are not comfortable at the back. Watford's tails are up with Troy Deeney and Etienne Capoue causing problems. A second Hornets goal would really ruffle the Saints.

That's Etienne Capoue's first league goal in a Watford shirt. And it's completely changed the momentum of the game. The Saints were bossing it until they fell behind. 

Southampton are bossing the opening exchanges but no further work for Heurelho Gomes since those two early saves.

So nearly a Saints goal as Dusan Tadic's free-kick is beaten away by Heurelho Gomes. The ball falls to Miguel Britos but instead of hacking it clear the Watford defender incredibly turns the ball back to Gomes who is forced into another save.
