  1. 'Koeman outfoxed a little'published at 15:13 British Summer Time 15 October 2016

    Man City 0-0 Everton

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live at Etihad Stadium

I think Ronald Koeman has been outfoxed a little bit tactically here. They're hitting a lot of long balls forward under pressure. They were not able to make use of a free-kick in a good position but that did at least take the pressure of the players and give the defenders some respite.

  2. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Man City 0-0 Everton

City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne has not really been able to exert his influence on the game yet.

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is acting like a shadow though, following the Belgian's every move.

Manchester City have started really well. Everton haven't gotten out of their half yet. Kevin de Bruyne has been involved in everything so far - he is making things happen.

  4. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 11 mins

    Man City 0-0 Everton

Leroy sane twisting and turning again on the edge of the box before gliding inside. He goes down under the challenge of left-back Bryan Oviedo but referee Michael Oliver waves the penalty appeals away.

Did not seem to be too much contact there.

  5. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Man City 0-0 Everton

Romelu Lukaku's free-kick for Everton is poor, curled high over the crossbar.

City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has not been made to work so far in the opening stages.

  6. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Man City 0-0 Everton

For the first time, Everton find their way up into the final third.

Winger Gerard Deulofeu teases Nicolas Otamendi on the edge of the box before putting in a cross which Romelu Lukaku cannot quite reach.

    Everton then earn a free-kick 30-yards out...

  7. 'Wing backs are actually wingers'published at 15:05 British Summer Time 15 October 2016

    Man City 0-0 Everton

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live at Etihad Stadium

City are playing three at the back, but you can see already that their wing-backs are really just wingers. It shows their intent to just go out, dominate and win the game. Pep Guardiola's side are on the front foot. The thing for Everton will be getting time on the ball in this game. Already it's been City in control of possession.

  8. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Man City 0-0 Everton

You can see Germany winger Leroy Sane is going to give Everton left-back Bryan Oviedo a torrid time.

The former Schalke man easily gets past the Republic of Ireland international of the right edge of the box, but his cut-back is wayward and goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg pushes the ball away.

Visitors Everton, who usually wear blue, are in their changed kit today. A horrible yellow shirts, blue shorts, yellow socks combination.

Manchester City are on top already and are popping the ball around quickly. Kevin de Bruyne almost finds Kelechi Iheanacho at the front post but the away side manage to clear.

    Good start by City.

"This game's sub-plot would make a good documentary, if not quite the full film story.

"Twenty six years ago, the late, great Johann Cruyff first encouraged, external a young Pep Guardiola to learn from his Barcelona team-mate Ronald Koeman, laying the foundations for his much admired football philosophies.

"Now, as they meet for the first time as opposing coaches, will the mentor be able to outsmart his once very eager pupil? How very Star Wars!

"It mostly depends on how their players perform of course, and whilst City should have the edge - especially at home - Koeman will feel that his can follow the Spurs example of how to beat them.

"A game to have made Cruyff proud will do beautifully."

Pep Guardiola and Ronald Koeman weren't too bad at football in their day. In fact, the two won four league titles and the European Cup during their time together at Barcelona.

It is that winning mentality which will excite the supporters on the Manchester-Merseyside divide.

These two sides have had impressive starts to the season. Manchester City lead the way and already look like being the team to beat, while Everton are in the hunt for a top-four spot this year.

All down to the new coaches of course.

Pep Guardiola and Ronald Koeman know each other well having been team-mates at Barcelona in the 90s.

Today, they come up against each other as coaches for the first time.
