Former England forward on Final Score

Joe Allen is on fire! He is not only scoring goals, it's his work rate from midfield and that link-up play he has got. That was a good quality finish.

That was like a centre forward's finish, just low into the bottom corner.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 15 October 2016

    Stoke 2-0 Sunderland

It's half-time. Joe Allen has a big grin on his face.

Who's got him in their Fantasy team?

GOAL - Stoke 2-0 Sunderlandpublished at 45+1 mins

    Joe Allen

He's only gone and done it again.

Joe Allen scores his fourth goal in three games. The Wales midfielder is on hand to thread an 18-yard shot past a crowd of players and the reach of Black Cats keeper Jordan Pickford after Xherdan Shaqiri's corner eventually arrived in his path.

Moments earlier, Pickford had saved at point-blank range from Geoff Cameron who barged his way into the area - in typical Geoff Cameron fashion.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 41 mins

    Stoke 1-0 Sunderland

Sunderland boss David Moyes is forced to make an early change as he brings off defender Patrick van Aanholt, who was struck in a delicate area by a Stoke ball, and replaces him with Billy Jones.

    Stoke 1-0 Sunderland

As mentioned earlier, Wilfried Bony appears to be on his game today. The Ivorian forward plays a deft curled pass into the path of Marko Arnautovic in the box who stretches for the ball and pokes his effort wide.

If Wahbi Khazri was a quarterback which team would he play for?

He's doing a great job for Sunderland but his ...wide receivers aren't reading his play.

On this occasion the Tunisian midfielder dinks the ball into the area for full-back Javier Manquillo who only just fails to connect.

  10. CLOSE!published at 29 mins

    Stoke 1-0 Sunderland

    The Potters go close again.

Stoke's Wilfried Bony holds off Papy Djilobodji on the edge of the area, turns and fires a low shot a few inches wide of Jordan Pickford's left-hand post.

The Ivory Coast forward appears to be in the mood.

Wahbi Khazri is once again pulling the strings for Sunderland. He threads (no pun intended) a pass through to striker Jermain Defoe, who sends Bruno Martins Indi and Ryan Shawcross the wrong way but then fires over from 18 yards.

    Brilliant Ryan Shawcross, just brilliant!

Wahbi Khazri streaks down the left and pulls the ball back for Jermain Defoe who pulls the trigger, only to see the Stoke defender block his shot with a sliding challenge.

    Stoke 1-0 Sunderland

Sunderland, again, have lots of possession in the Stoke half, but they have yet to trouble Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford.

It seems that the Potters are happy to allow them to knock the ball about - they're set up to counter attack.

  17. goal

GOAL - Stoke 1-0 Sunderlandpublished at 8 mins

    Joe Allen

    Well.

Sunderland made a great start, but it's Stoke who take the lead.

The Potters threatened moments earlier when Marko Arnautovic played a through-ball for Wilfried Bony only to see it brilliantly cleared by Papy Djilobodji.

But seconds later they make the breakthrough when Arnautovic dinks the ball from the left onto the head of the fast-arriving Joe Allen. That's his third goal in three games.

That's right - one of the smallest men on the pitch was allowed to get his head on the ball.

    Stoke 0-0 Sunderland

Stoke are finding it difficult to break out of their own half. Sunderland are not wasting time when they have possession, with Jermain Defoe the recipient of a long punt upfield. The diminutive striker tries to play the ball into the area, but Stoke clear.

    Stoke 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland win a corner - by the way they're playing in what can only be described as pink and blue, because it's pink and blue - but nothing comes of it.

The visitors have made a bright start though.
