"It's an hour detailing turmoil, hatred, hubris and collapse - an examination of the one area where Scottish football is in a world of its own: chaos.

We see Hugh Dallas' bloodied face during the title decider in May 1999. We see the targeting of Neil Lennon; bullets and bombs in the post, physical assault on the streets and an attack on the touchline while managing Celtic at Tynecastle - "a campaign of terror" as the journalist Kevin McKenna puts it.

It was deeply disturbing back then and, if anything, it's even more shocking now. The passage of time has only increased the sense of outrage at what Lennon was subjected to.

Finance is a big issue in episode two - particularly television finance. The deal with BSkyB, the push for SPLTV, the bitterness when the Old Firm pulled the plug on it and the arrival, and later, the demise of Setanta and the horrible fallout.

Clubs that thought a bad day would never come suddenly realised the insanity of their spending on expensive imports. Motherwell went into administration. A young Roberto Martinez, then on the books at Fir Park, is interviewed as the club was folding around his ears. "It's a war between football and business," he says.

Scotland Under-21s boss Ricky Sbragia insists no pressure was put on him by senior assistant Mark McGhee to pick Motherwell midfielder Chris Cadden. 

McGhee, who is also manager of Motherwell, publically expressed his surprise that Cadden had been left out of the initial U21 squad. 

Cadden was then brought in after an injury to Brentford's Lewis Macleod. 

 "It was case of Chris or Lewis and we felt Lewis had a bit more experience at that level," said Sbragia. "Unfortunately, Lewis got a little niggle, so we brought Chris in."

Will Craig Gordon reclaim his starting spot with Celtic?  The Scotland keeper played in their first nine games this season, but was relegated to the bench against Aberdeen last Saturday with new signing Dorus de Vries taking his place. 

Rough believes Gordon will reclaim first-choice status, but not for next week's Old Firm encounter against Rangers.

"I still think Craig is good enough and has the ability to fight himself back in there," Rough said. "But the manager has to select De Vries against Rangers. He's picked him to play in the previous match. It would just throw out confusion to everybody if he didn't.

"Fortunately he's been given a fortnight to get used to the back four that will play in front of him. But I think that is what has been the problem - not Craig's problem - but Celtic's problem, they haven't had a settled back four, not even a settled two central defenders. 

"I think Craig's problem is he's been trying to cover for the people in front of him and on the odd occasion he's been found out.

"Craig's biggest problem is the standard he set when he joined Celtic, he was unbelievable. It's very difficult to maintain that kind of level.

"He's got to accept that's he's been dropped not for the wee small error, because everybody loses these kind of goals; he's been dropped because the manager said this guy [De Vries] is better with the ball at his feet. But I think Craig will get back in."

More from Alan Rough on the issues facing Scotland's three main goalkeepers.  

Rough believes david Marshall deserves to be first choice for Scotland despite being pressed by Allan McGregor and Celtic's Craig Gordon.

"For me David is the number one and he should remain the number one," said the 64-year-old.

"I'm a great believer when you are number one, unless you do something wrong, you should remain number one. It doesn't matter how good the other two are even if they are playing out of their skin,  if you are holding that position you should stay there until you do something wrong.

"In the last campaign I would say David Marshall was our star man. He has the ability to make the international saves, and the important saves when it's really tight.

"I think he's matured beyond anything you would have imagined."

Former Scotland goalkeeper Alan Rough feels Allan McGregor will have a decision to make over his club future when he is fit to play for Hull City.

The English Premier League side have just signed McGregor's Scotland rival David Marshall, 31, on a three-year deal.

McGregor, 34, is likely to be sidelined until the new year after undergoing back surgery and Marshall, who is expected to start for Scotland against Malta in Sunday's World Cup qualifier, has been signed from Cardiff to fill the void at Hull.

"It's not a good problem if you are the goalkeeper that's number two," said Rough, who was capped 53 times for Scotland.

"That's when you've got to make decisions - 'do I want to be here?' I'm sure Allan would have to look at that situation depending on how long it went on.

"It is a massive problem, but a manager will tell you it's a good problem.

"I'm sure the two of them will work together. But the longer you are number two, then you've got to start making decisions."

New arrival Ryan Bowman says Motherwell were one of a number of clubs who approached him late on transfer deadline day - but he was keen to sample the Scottish Premiership. 

Motherwell acted quickly after Oxford revived their interest in Marvin Johnson to sign a player they have been tracking for several months and had a bid accepted by National League side Gateshead. 

The 24-year-old striker said: "It's relief really - I spoke to Mark McGhee a couple of times over the off-season and then it went a bit cold so I didn't think anything more of it.

"I didn't think anything was going to happen - me and my agent were laughing saying we'll be having a chilled day watching the TV. 

"Then a couple of clubs came in before Motherwell and I was just rushed off my feet from 5 o'clock onwards. It's a different league and a different competition so it's a challenge but I'm just excited to get going." 

The former Carlisle trainee has scored 19 goals in each of his last two seasons - for Torquay and Gateshead.

Scottish Champions Glasgow City will face a 'tough' test in their Women’s Champions League last-32 tie against Swedish side Eskilstuna United, according to head coach Scott Booth.

Eskilstuna were runners-up in the Swedish League last term, and boast members of the successful national side who finished silver medallists in the Olympic Final in Rio, after losing the final 2-1 to Germany.

Booth said: "The Champions League is special. The whole club were excited about the draw. Eskilstuna United are a top side in Sweden which means it is a tough tie. 

"However, there aren’t any easy games in this competition and we are 100% ready for the challenge." City will play the away leg first, on 5/6 October, with the return tie on Thursday,  13 October, at Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium, 19:45 KO.

Jozo Simunovic insists he is fully fit and focused on doing well for Celtic following his failed move to Torino. The Croatian defender travelled to Italy for a medical after an agreement appeared to have been reached between the two clubs, but the transfer collapsed late on deadline day. 

Some reports claimed the Serie A club had reservations following the medical checks but Simunovic stressed that his results were "perfect". 

The 22-year-old has not played since January after suffering a knee injury but has recently resumed training and is ready to fight for his place alongside fellow central defenders Kolo Toure, Eoghan O'Connell, Erik Sviatchenko and Efe Ambrose. 

Issuing a message on his Twitter account,, external the former Dinamo Zagreb centre-back wrote: 

"A lot has been said in the last few days. I prefer to talk only on the field, but this time I want to say something to the Celtic fans who have always supported me and as a player it mean lot to me. Behind me is 'turbulent' period, starting from injury until transfer to Turin. 

"I just want to say that it is not true that I have not passed medical in Turin. Everything was perfect, I am completely healthy and fit! Transfer was not realized because Torino at the last minute wanted to change the initial agreement with Celtic. 

"And most important of all. My head is in Celtic and I am 100% focused on the field and the challenges ahead. I am fit, I train with the team, and of course the coach decides when I will start to play. And when I start, I can promise one thing. I'm going to give more than maximum, for Celtic!"

Bit of a follow-up to yesterday's transfer deadline day deals.  As well as bringing in defender Scott Boyd on a season-long loan from Ross County, Kilmarnock have confirmed they have terminated the loan spells of midfielder Mark Waddington (Stoke City) and goalkeeper Oliver Davies (Swansea).

Both players played two matches for Killie this season.  The club say they have agreed to return to their respective clubs by mutual consent.

A Killie statement says "the club would like to thank them for their contributions during their time here and wish them the best of luck in the future."

Aberdeen midfielder Ryan Jack will now have a knee operation on Friday as manager Derek McInnes waits to hear how long he will be without his captain. 

Jack has missed the club's last two Premiership matches and will face a spell on the sidelines, though McInnes won't know for how long that will be until tomorrow at the earliest. Jack had been due to have surgery earlier this week.

Hibernian, Scotland's other representative in the last 32, will face Bayern Munich.  

That will bring Scotland forward Lisa Evans, the 24-year-old who won the women's Bundesliga in her first season at Bayern, back to Scotland.

Hibs, as the unseeded team will be at home in the first leg on 5/6 October, with the return leg the following week on 12/13 October.

The Scottish women's champions, chasing a 10th straight title at home, will face a Swedish outfit making their first foray into the women's Champions League in the last 32 of this year's competition.

Glasgow City, as the seeded team, will be at home in the second leg on 12/13 October, with the away leg the week before.

Scotland open their World Cup qualifying campaign on the Mediterranean island of Malta on Sunday, 4 September (19:45 KO). 

Their opponents drew 1-1 with Estonia last night in Tallinn,a  result which counts as something of a boost for the Group F minnows, who have only won once in nearly three years.

Scotland's two representatives, Glasgow City and Hibernian, are about to discover who they will face in the last 32 of the Uefa Women's Champions League.  Glasgow City are one of the 16 seeds - along with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and defending champions Lyon - while Hibernian are unseeded, along with English sides Chelsea and Manchester City.

As English clubs amassed over £1billion in transfer fees in this window, the transfer market in Scotland may have seemed a little slow in comparison.

However, although much of the business was conducted earlier in the summer, several Scottish clubs were still active on the final day of the transfer window.

Jozo Simunovic and Efe Ambrose remain Celtic players after transfers for the defenders fell through.

But Swiss wide man Saidy Janko did move to Barnsley on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old Simunovic passed a medical with Torino, but Celtic and the Italian club could not agree a fee.

Celtic had accepted a bid of about £300,000 for Ambrose from Belgian top-flight club Standard Liege, but the 27-year-old Nigerian international has decided to remain with Celtic.
