Birmingham City have it all to do to change the course of this match, with Burton well on top at half-time, even though they only have one goal to show for it.

After this match, Blues have a nine-day break before they are next back in action - but they may need those few extra days to prepare for what is no ordinary fixture, the 'Second City Derby' against Aston Villa.

And former Blues manager Steve Bruce, now the Aston Villa boss, is at the Pirelli Stadium tonight to take a first look at his old club since taking charge of his new club.

In case you missed it, former Watford, Swansea, Millwall and Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has been appointed as the new manager of Rotherham United.

The 54-year-old replaces Alan Stubbs, who was sacked on Wednesday following a sixth successive Championship defeat.

"Kenny was available and we acted swiftly because we knew that he has got the experience, he has managed a great club like Wolves and if you check the stats out his record is superb," said Millers chairman Tony Stewart.

Lloyd Dyer scores his third goal of the season against his former club, set up by Jamie Ward before clipping home with the outside of his left foot from an angle after again being left in too much space inside the penalty area.

It caps a fine 15 minutes of dazzling activity from the former Blues loan man, one of Gary Rowett's first signings when he arrived at St Andrew's.

Birmingham were on the end of a Friday night beating when they suffered only their second defeat of the season at Forest a week ago - and suddenly they look at risk again as Blues keeper Adam Legzdins makes a great save to deny Burton top scorer Jackson Irvine, when he was put clean though.

Jamie Ward poked past Adam Legzdins' right post after winger Lloyd Dyer sneaks clear down the left - and the same combo then set up an even better chance, which an anguished Ward this time lifts over.

Blues' aerial threat from Lukas Jutkiewicz and skipper Michael Morrison was pinpointed as the danger in midweek by beaten Rotherham boss Alan Stubbs, who lost his job the morning after their 4-2 defeat.

Nigel Clough's Burton Albion have made a reasonable start in their first season at this level following promotion in May.

They lie 19th in the table, having lost five of their 13 games, picking up 14 points - 10 of which have come at home, with wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Cardiff City - and they have conceded just two goals in their last four games at the Pirelli Stadium.

One of Birmingham's returning players to the Pirelli Stadium tonight is Adam Legzdins, who spent a season there in 2010-11, before returning there on a month's loan as Gary Rowett's first Burton signing, two days after he took charge in March 2013.

"I had a fantastic year there. Jacques Maghoma was there for a long time too and was a real fans' favourite," Legzdins told BBC WM. "It'll be a tough game. It's a tight pitch, it's on TV and they'll be up for it. I'm sure the stadium will be rocking and we have to identify that."

    Burton v Birmingham (Kick-off 19:45 BST)

    BBC WM's Richard Wilford:

"The narrative surrounding this game inevitably focuses on Gary Rowett's return to the club which gave him his breakthrough in management, and it's fair to say the Blues boss is not entirely comfortable with it.

"While he retains an affection for Burton and their chairman Ben Robinson, and indeed he has stated this week that he owes them a lot, Rowett is very much wanting to concentrate on the challenge of the game itself.

"He has tried to take any sentiment away from the fixture, although with the other members of his coaching staff, as well as likely starters Jacques Maghoma and Adam Legzdins - both also past members of the Burton dressing room - that may be easier said than done."
