Dan Gosling has another attempt. Burnley's defence gives him so much space on the edge of the area that he lets one fly, but it sails over the bar.

Dan Gosling shoots just wide but it trickles past Tom Heaton's post.

Then at the other end the Bournemouth defenders make a hash of clearing the ball and Nathan Ake's back pass is hooked away by a diving Artur Boruc.

A lively start here at Turf Moor.

They reckon Harry Arter has bundled over Jeff Hendrick.

Seemed to be outside the area anyway and the referee waves the appeals away.

Burnley and Bournemouth appear from the Turf Moor tunnel to a nice, polite round of applause.

Another fact I have just come across is that Burnley have won 13 of their 14 points this season at home.

It's what every Burnley fans wants this Christmas...a goal.

Burnley have failed to score in a league-high seven matches so far this season.

Sam Vokes is the Clarets top scorer on four goals, but beyond that the likes of Andre Gray and Steven Defour are all on one Premier League goal.

They have also scored the second fewest goals in the league this season (12), just behind Hull (11).

Sean Dyche's side have also allowed their opponents the highest number of shots on target in the Premier League this season (91) while attempting the second fewest themselves (37) behind Middlesbrough (36).

Bournemouth's comeback against Liverpool was arguably the game of last weekend.

Eddie Howe's side were trailing 3-1 down with just 26 minutes to go when they somehow turned it around to win 4-3 with Nathan Ake scoring the 93rd minute winner.

That result lifted the Cherries to 10th in the table.

Meanwhile Burnley suffered a third straight defeat as they lost 2-0 to Stoke.

Bournemouth will be looking to record back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since March.

While the Clarets will be hoping to snap their losing streak, which has seen them concede eight and score just once.

A little over four years ago, Eddie Howe cut short his time at Burnley to return to Bournemouth - which then meant dropping from the Championship into League One.

Howe's departure opened the door for Sean Dyche - and such has been the success for both clubs, that neither will have even the merest hint of regret.

Bournemouth's astonishing recovery against Liverpool last Sunday will live long in the memory, but Howe would be disappointed if that turned out to be the high point of their season. Constant progression is a must for the Premier League's youngest boss.

Dyche will be concerned at a run of three consecutive defeats but still must be confident of becoming the first Burnley boss to avoid relegation from the top flight since Jimmy Adamson in 1975.

If you're wondering why Bournemouth have dropped Jack Wilshere to the bench, days after being named the Cherries player of the month for November, then we have the answer from their manager.

"With three games in eight days we're managing Jack Wilshere's workload," said Eddie Howe. "Our challenge is to win back to back games."

Burnley make four changes to the team that lost 2-0 to Stoke.

The big news is in net, with England goalkeeper Tom Heaton returning to the side after recovering from a calf injury.

He replaces Paul Robinson, while Steven Defour, Matthew Lowton and Sam Vokes are also handed a start by Sean Dyche.

Eddie Howe makes three changes to the Bournemouth side that beat Liverpool 4-3 in that memorable match last week.

Bournemouth's player of the month for November Jack Wilshere drops to the bench, but Benik Afobe, Charlie Daniels and Ryan Fraser - star man last time - start.

Junior Stanislas is expected to be out "for weeks" with an ankle injury he picked up last week.

How Burnley have missed England goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The 30-year-old has missed the Clarets last two games with a calf injury, as Burnley lost to Stoke and Manchester City.

Heaton still tops the goalkeeping stats this season with 62 saves made.

And good news Burnley fans, he's back between the posts this afternoon.

In October 2012 Eddie Howe left Championship side Burnley to rejoin League One side Bournemouth.

Sean Dyche was then appointed as Howe's replacement at Turf Moor.

Four years later and the teams meet in the Premier League for the first time this afternoon.

It's also the 822nd different matchup in Premier League history.

"I can't lie and say it's just another game. It's a little bit more than that," says Howe.
