Shocking half by Sunderland. David Moyes has serious work to do. 

Shortly before Stoke's third goal, Vito Mannone was almost embarrassed by a shot from distance by Xherdan Shaqiri which rolled under the keeper and hit a post.  

Mark Hughes is looking at his watch. He wasn't doing that 10 minutes ago. Stoke want half-time.

No doubt about it. Jermain Defoe's 12th Premier League goal of the season has lifted the mood. Sunderland are finishing the half strongly. Another home goal before the interval would make it very interesting.

So, Sunderland are three goals down and having a shocker at the back.

The bad news is that they are not exactly looking like getting back into the game with their attacking play at the other end either. With more than 35 minutes played, as well as being yet to have a shot at the Stoke goal, they have also only touched the ball once in the Stoke area - that was Adnan Januzaj by the way.

Stoke, on the right, are finding it rather easy to get the ball into the danger zone... and the Sunderland net.

More sloppy defending by Sunderland almost results in a third goal. Papy Djilobodji does a terrible job shielding the ball inside his own penalty area and Xherdan Shaqiri is on to it in a flash. The hosts just about manage to do enough to prevent another goal. More jeers.

Half an hour gone. Six shots in the game - all to Stoke. Two resulting in goals. No wonder the mood is ugly.

If Sunderland are going to get back into this game they need to find a way of feeding top-scorer Jermain Defoe inside the Stoke area. The former England striker has only touched the ball five times so far, and three of those were from a kick-off.

Contrast Defoe's touch-map (l) with that with of Stoke's two-goal hero Marko Arnautovic (r) who has been working hard down the left and seeing plenty of the ball inside and outside the box, as well as finding the net twice.

Sunderland are usually defensively poor but that was absolutely shocking - their defenders were standing there like shop-floor dummies.

It's great play from Stoke and a great finish from Marko Arnautovic but Sunderland are in massive trouble.

David Moyes has no ability to spend real money in January - they are bang in trouble.

The atmosphere at the Stadium of Light is turning ugly. The jeers are becoming increasingly louder. David Moyes knows his side need to do something to keep the fans on side.

An awful afternoon for Sunderland so far. They started this game knowing a win could lift them out of the bottom three but they are now two points from safety as it stands. Stoke, who started the day 11th in the table, are currently 10th.

This has been very slap-dash by Sunderland. They're deep in a relegation battle but they have yet to settle and are giving the ball away cheaply.
