Another chance for Watford. Troy Deeney runs through but Victor Valdes comes out quickly to deflect the ball wide for a corner, which Valdes gathers.

Watford are pushing for a late winner here.

So, so close to a goal on his Watford return for Tom Cleverley.

A long throw is flicked on by Troy Deeney and Cleverley, running in from the edge of the box, hits a shot that hits the foot of the post. The rebound comes to Etienne Capoue, who puts it wide.

This game, being shown all over the world, is not doing the Premier League any favours.

Are we going to have some late drama? Rudy Gestede shoots just over the top for Middlesbrough.

Stefano Okaka crumples to the floor under a challenge from Bernardo. The Watford man wants a penalty, but instead gets a yellow card for diving for his efforts.

Tom Cleverley is back in Watford action. The former Manchester United midfielder had a loan spell at Watford in 2009-10 and is back on the pitch at Vicarage Road after joining on loan from Everton earlier in the week.

The three shots the lucky fans who are at Vicarage Road saw in the first half was the lowest in the Premier League this season. 

There have been a few more attempts at goal since the break, but Watford's heat map (left) looks awfully similar to Middlesbrough's (on the right).

Lots of the ball outside the opposition area. Hardly any touches inside it. Still no goals, either.

So close for Watford. Abdoulaye Doucoure jumps to meet Christian Kabasele's cross and gets a good contact on the ball, but the header goes just past the past.

Time for changes and two big ones. Striker Rudy Gestede comes on for Cristhian Stuani to make his Middlesbrough debut after a £6m move from Aston Villa, while Heurelho Gomes has not recovered from his earlier back injury.

He limps off with Costel Pantilimon coming on to go into the Watford goal.

Moments before the changes, Etienne Capoue had a chance for Watford but curled a shot wide from 15 yards out.

Neither of the coaches have shown any ambition at all today.

Watford number one Heurelho Gomes is able to carry on but looks in pain when he has to launch a goal-kick clear. One to monitor.

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is brave to punch away a cross but it may have come at a cost as he is crouched down and looks in pain. He came past a jumping Alvaro Negredo to punch the ball clear and landed badly on his back.

He is getting some treatment with reserve keeper Costel Pantilimon warming up.

We've already had more action than in the first half. Firstly a Watford free-kick from Etienne Capoue from near the right touchline is floated to the back post and Stefano Okaka's header is well held by Victor Valdes.

At the other end, Fabio has a strike but it is palmed away by Heurelho Gomes. This game has taken a while to get going, but it is getting better.

We are back under way and there is an early chance in the second half for Watford and Christian Kabasele should do the better.

A ball is delivered into the box and Middlesbrough defender George Friend misjudges it as the ball bounces past him. It falls to Kabasele at the back post but he can only head wide from close range.

A number of former Watford players were on the pitch at half-time, with some of them talking to the crowd and giving their memories of former Hornets manager Graham Taylor.

Ex-England striker Luther Blissett says: "As a man he is one of the greatest I have met."

An uninspiring first half is brought to an end by referee Jonathan Moss. Goalless at half-time.
