Summary

  • Deeney returns for Watford

  • Swansea winless in five games

  1. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Fernando Llorente is doing his best to gain an inch for his side.

First he protests to the referee that his jersey is being pulled in the penalty area, and when that appeal is turned away, he tries to claim a corner.

Lee Mason is having none of it though and awards a goal-kick.

  2. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Goal chances have been few and far between so far this afternoon.

We've had one decent save a piece from the two keepers, with 10 minutes to go until the break.

Watford will be rather happier with this scoreline at the moment you'd imagine.

  3. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Gylfi Sigurdsson with a fine effort from absolutely nothing as he fires a shot from about 25 yards.

But Heurelho Gomes watches it all the way.

Just a glimpse there of the long-range shooting ability of the Icelandic international.

  4. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Swansea are on the move. Gylfi Sigurdsson finds Luciano Narsingh who feeds the ball inside to Fernando Llorente.

But his shot is straight at Heurelho Gomes.

That was better play from the Welsh side.

  5. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Leroy Fer loses the ball in a dangerous position.

Watford spring forward in attack but Tom Cleverley can't find Daryl Janmaat - and boss Walter Mazzarri throws him a frustrated look from the bench.

  6. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Daryl Janmaat makes a storming run down the right and finds Troy Deeney in the centre of the penalty area. He takes it first time but his shot is well blocked by Lukasz Fabianski.

I think it took a deflection on the way through there too.

A brilliant stop by the Swansea keeper.

But his team are rocking a bit here for the first time in the game.

  7. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Federico Fernandez brings down M'Baye Niang just outside the penalty area - and he's awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position.

But Niang's dipping free-kick is safely collected by Lukasz Fabianski. He could have done better there.

  8. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

If Swansea are going to score this afternoon, I'll bet Gylfi Sigurdsson will be heavily involved.

He's made a really bright start and could be the difference.

Still nothing to show for either side though with just over 20 minutes gone at Vicarage Road.

  9. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Troy Deeney is the target for Watford as Etienne Capoue feeds a lovely ball through to the striker.

But it's slightly too far and Lukasz Fabianski is alive to the danger.

He rushes off his line to clear the ball at the edge of the box and Watford find themselves right back in their own penalty area.

  10. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

    That looked a harsh free-kick.

Troy Deeney gets the ball but takes the man out in the process.

Gylfi Sigurdsson fires a testing free-kick into the Watford penalty area and Heurelho Gomes comes out to punch the ball but he makes a complete hash of it.

It falls to Swans' Federico Fernandez but his header from six yards out lands on the top of the net.

A lucky escape. Watford's Brazilian goalkeeper certainly wasn't convincing there.

  11. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

A good save from Heurelho Gomes denies Swansea captain Gylfi Sigurdsson who finds a bit of space in the penalty area.

But the Watford keeper saves well at his left post.

First real chance of the game goes to Swansea.

  12. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

The home side with all the possession so far.

Jay Fulton brings down Tom Cleverley as Watford earn their third free-kick of the game - and this one's in a dangerous position.

But it's headed out by the Swansea defence and they clear their lines.

  13. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

These two teams drew 0-0 at the Liberty Stadium earlier in the season.

But with Watford's defence in recent matches, I can't see that happening again today.

    A lively start for Watford.

Fernando Llorente is a focal point for Swansea. Gylfi Sigurdsson likes to play the ball in and he can target Llorente. But Swansea do have only one win in five and today need to stop the rot, even if today is just a point.

Will top-scorer Fernando Llorente's return from injury make a difference?

Swansea City are two-points adrift of safety, sitting behind Hull City who travel to Stoke today (15:00 BST).

And the Welsh side have been beaten on their last five away trips.

    Tough afternoon to come.

  18. Crunch time for Swanspublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Watford v Swansea (15:00 BST)

This is a far bigger game for Swansea. Watford can consider themselves almost safe and look forward to another season in the Premier League.

For Swansea, the situation is grim. Their honeymoon period under Paul Clement has subsided after an initial bounce. They haven't won in five games and I saw nothing in their defeat at West Ham last weekend which suggested they can turn it around.

Walter Mazzarri’s Watford side seem to be heading for mid-table.

But with 13th place not enough to keep Quique Sanchez Flores in a job last season, current manager Mazzarri will be hoping for his side can put a few more points on the board.

After 31 games, Watford are on 37 points - the same as under Flores.

With top scorer Troy Deeney back on side following clear-the-air talks with his manager, Watford will be looking to swiftly put last Saturday's 4-0 defeat to Tottenham behind them.
