    Messi's 500 goals

Lionel Messi's dramatic late strike at the Bernabeu was not only a special moment because it was a Clasico match-winner, it also marked his 500th senior goal in Barcelona colours - and helped reassert his status as the world's best.

It was a closing scene the scripwriters of 90s football drama Dream Team could barely have thought of.

Lionel Messi scored his 500th Barcelona goal to send them top of La Liga with an injury-time winner against 10-man Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Barca, whose win put them top because of a better head-to-head record, have five games left, Real have six to play.

Victory against Osasuna tonight will give them some breathing space (for a couple of hours at least), and heap the pressure on Zinedine Zidane and company...

However, the art of good management - so I'm told - is rallying the troops as soon as possible after a chastening defeat.

So whatever Luis Enrique said at the start of last Thursday's training session worked a treat.

Because nicking a last-gasp winner in a bear-pit atmosphere at your arch rivals is the best way to bounce back.

Oh, and it also blew the Spanish La Liga title race wide open.

"Let's just focus on the league, lads."

Probably not the words immediately delivered by Luis Enrique as he picked the bones out of Barcelona's unedifying Champions League carcass in the bowels of the Nou Camp last Wednesday...
