"Mark Durnan was telling him to buck up his ideas and, with Wato being a bit of a hot head, he did not take kindly to it.

Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon on BBC Radio Scotland: "At the time, we thought it was a penalty and we have now seen it back and it was definitely a penalty.

"The referee has made a bad decision and he has not been helped by his assistant.

"It would be an injustice if Simon Murray was to miss Sunday's game and we will appeal that red card.

"I understand that in big games like this decisions sometimes go against you.

"My players kept going when down to 10 men and put Accies under pressure.

"Hamilton were probably the better team in the first half, but we kept going and showed a lot of determination."

The first half belonged to Accies. They looked a league, even a class, above their hosts and controlled the play.

However, United boss Ray McKinnon hauling off Wato Kuate just after the break following the midfielder's temper tantrum turned the game more in United's favour.

Even the sending off of Simon Murray, who was unfortunate to be shown a second yellow card for diving, failed to knock the home side out of their stride.

Accies, who had already used all their substitutes, were effectively down to nine men themselves because of injuries but held out to take the game back to New Douglas Park all square on Sunday.
