An embarrassing moment for Nathaniel Chalobah. Watford attack down the right wing through Nordin Amrabat and he pulls it back for Chalobah on the edge of the area.

But the midfielder, mistakenly thinking a team-mate was behind him, lets the ball run past him when he could have had a shot on goal and Bournemouth run clear with the ball.

Nope. Benik Afobe gets there but can't direct a header goalbound. Surely not long before Jermain Defoe and Troy Deeney get the call from their respective managers.

Another corner for the hosts, will this lead to the breakthrough?

Jonathan Schogger: Thought Chalobah had a quiet/nervous game last week but has looked busy and involved today. Big improvement.

Indeed he has Jonathan, not too many attacking players from both sides have impressed so far, but Chalobah has at least got into decent positions, but wasted the opportunities that have come his way.

If anything sums up the action so far, then we have just seen it.

Watford's Jose Holebas swings in a left-wing cross, Bournemouth's Charlie Daniels heads the ball up and not out, it falls to Nordin Amrabat, who connects with a volley... which goes out for a throw-in.

Already a better start as Steve Cook meets a Bournemouth corner and flicks the ball goalwards, the ball nicks off Miguel Britos and is well held by Heurelho Gomes in the Watford goal.

Right, let's forget about the first half. We are back under way. Bring on the goals.

After a fairly insipid first half, both managers might like to check their off-target strikers haven't donned a similar pair of dark goggles hampering their view of the goal...

Far from a classic, this game has been tame at times, disjointed at others, with the occasional feisty moment when the tackles have flown in and tempers have risen.

But with the quality of Jermain Defoe and Troy Deeney on the sides' respective benches, fair to expect both managers to use their substitutes sooner rather than later.

That is a 45 minutes that absolutely no-one will remember. Goalless, the most goalless it can be.

Uninspiring, pretty poor fare, but don't worry it will get better. Honest.

We have not seen much of Watford's Andre Gray up until now. And he should score with the last kick of the first half.

Richarlison, a summer signing for £11.5m from Fluminense, does well to get to the byline and pulls it back to where Gray, another summer addition, is waiting six yards out.

But you expect more for your £18.5m. Gray, under pressure from a home defender, scoops the ball over the top when he should have done much, much better.

Any drama at the end of a very tame first half?

Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe is looking one of the more lively players on the pitch, but he is crowded out in the penalty area as he is surrounded by Miguel Britos and Jose Holebas, with the ball going for a goal-kick.

It looks like he could do with some help up top though. Jermain Defoe to come on in the second half?

Jose Holebas takes Watford's first corner of the match and it is aimed towards the front post, where Richarlison gets away from his marker to flick out a header. But there is no direction or power on the header with it going well wide of the post.

This game has taken a while to get going and is warming up now as Watford win their first corner of the game.

Some smart goalkeeping from Heurelho Gomes as the Watford number one sprints off his line to smother the ball before Benik Afobe can get there after the ball had ricocheted into his path.

Nathaniel Chalobah has a half-chance of his own at the other end, 25 yards out but the midfielder scuffs his shot badly and the ball rolls tamely towards Asmir Begovic.

And just as I write that, finally a goalkeeper is tested.

Bournemouth's Benik Afobe uses his strength to hold off Miguel Britos and shoots at goal from a tight angle, but Heurelho Gomes is well positioned to parry the effort away.
