Summary

  • Brighton have failed to score in their opening three Premier League games and have registered just six shots on target

  • West Brom could win back-to-back Premier League away games for the first time in two years

  1. IT'S A CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!published at 41 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

That was like necking five caffeine drinks in one gulp, while someone places ice cubes down your pants. I'm awake!

Gareth Barry latches on to one from 15 yards out which forces a great tip-over save from Mat Ryan.

  2. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

It's that Solly March again - undoubtedly one of the best names in the PL.

He drifts down the left and again delivers a low ball that West Brom do well to cut out.

  3. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

The Seagulls attempt to cut through the Baggies' defence again, but it's a tough ask against a notoriously tight backline.

Solly March, who looks a threat, fires a low cross from the left but it's cleared by the opposition.

I'm a bit bored, in all fairness.

  4. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

Brighton counter-attack but the final ball from Pascal Gross just eludes Tomer Hemed.

It needs another effort on goal to lift the game.

  5. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

    Good grief!

Gareth Barry - playing against his 45th different opponent in the top flight equalling Ryan Giggs' record - smacks a hole-puncher of a shot that comes off what appears to be the backside of a Brighton player and out to safety.

    That was goalbound.

  6. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

BBC sports presenting legend Des Lynam is watching his beloved Brighton.

And his side went close again as Anthony Knockaert strikes a low 20-yard shot that Ben Foster crouches down to collect.

The Seagulls players' shooting sat-navs are pretty accurate today.

  7. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 16 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

    Eeek!

Solly March - who earlier tried one from distance - fires one from his howitzer of a boot.

Keeper Ben Foster parries into the path of Shane Duffy who tucks in the loose ball.

However, the lino elevates his yellow flag.

He was off, to be fair.

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

The Brighton centre-backs are tested as a long ball is launched into the area intended for the head of Salomon Rondon, but the home side clear.

It's a free-kick at the other end now.

  9. Lullpublished at 10 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

It's lull o'clock at the moment and we're only into the 11th minute.

  10. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

That was a good run from Matty Phillips.

The ex-QPR man thrusts down the right but his low cross is easily collected by Seagulls keeper Mat Ryan.

The Baggies are fractionally on top.

  11. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Brighton 0-0 West Brom

It looked better than it was.

Brighton's Solly March smacks a volley from about 20 yards - it flies about six yards wide of Ben Foster's goal.

At least, we've had our first effort on goal.

    We are under way.

West Brom are in grass green so I can only see white shorts.

    Match of the Day commentator

It is 34 years since Brighton's last top-flight goal and they could become the fourth team to fail to score in their opening four games of a Premier League campaign.

But, rather surprisingly, none of the previous three (Swansea, Newcastle and Sheffield Wednesday) went on to be relegated.

Brighton broke their club record transfer fee three times this summer but chairman Tony Bloom admits they were very disappointed to miss out on a striker, with a deadline-day move for Tottenham's Vincent Janssen one of several deals which could not be completed.

They may find it hard to break down a West Brom side who, despite failing to hang on for victory against Stoke, have made a flying start to the season.

The signing of Poland midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, on loan from Paris St-Germain, is also a real coup for the Baggies.

It's a lovely sunny day down in Brighton. A great football away day.

The Seagulls will be hoping to brighten their own day by finally getting a first goal and first win of the season since their promotion.

There's still a good buzz around the Amex but I think it's fair to say there's also a big dose of realism after the first three games.

Brighton are still after that first win and goal in the top flight in 34 years, they'll find this West Brom side very difficult to break down and another West Brom 1-0 win wouldn't surprise you.

You surely won't have missed the news this week that legendary commentator John Motson will call time on his BBC career aged 72 after the conclusion of the current football season.

The broadcaster, popularly known as 'Motty', is in his 50th consecutive year with the corporation.

He covered 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships, 29 FA Cup finals and more than 200 England games.

"I've absolutely loved my time commentating for BBC Sport," said Motson.

"I've been fortunate enough to witness some of the biggest moments in football history mere yards away from the action, so I've really been very lucky."

Brighton are still waiting to score their first top-flight goal since 1983, when Gordon Smith bagged in a 2-1 defeat at Norwich on 14 May that year.

The last time these two sides met in the top flight was also in 1983. That game ended in a goalless draw...
