    Southampton 0-1 Watford

A couple of forced changes for Watford in their defence, which has been extremely well-organised so far.

Younes Kaboul's hamstring has gone and seconds later Kiko Femenia also limps off. Daryl Janmaat and Adrian Mariappa are the men who come on in their place.

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

Better from Southampton. The ball falls to Jack Stephens on the edge of the penalty area who shoots low at goal but an excellent piece of defending from Christian Kabasele stops the shot.

The ball falls to Nathan Redmond who can only drive his follow-up shot into the side-netting.

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

Sofiane Boufal cuts in on to his left foot. Takes aim, curls it and finds the back of the stand. Horribly high from the Saint.

Still been a very easy day for Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, Southampton still not had a shot on target.

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

A half-chance for Southampton. Ryan Bertrand, who scored for England against Malta last week, gets into a good position but his effort is deflected for a corner, which comes to nothing.

If the games finish as they are currently then Watford will end the day in fourth place. What a start it would be for Marco Silva.

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

Watford had the better of the first half and have the first chance of the second, with Nathaniel Chalobah shooting from 25 yards out but it is straight at Fraser Forster who deals with the attempt comfortably.

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

A half-time change for Southampton with Dusan Tadic coming on for James Ward-Prowse.

A good bit of nostalgia as well at St Mary's as the electronic board is not working so they have to hold up some old-school numbers to indicate the substitution.

And we are under way with half number two.

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

And that is the end of the first half, and Lee Probert's whistle is accompanied by some boos from the home fans.

It has been very poor from the home side who have not had a single attempt at goal in the first half.

Watford have seen a lot of the ball and deserve the lead, which was given to them by a fine strike by Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Lovely football from Watford. A low cross is fed into Andre Gray, who produces a smart flick to set up Abdoulaye Doucoure. The midfielder has already scored one goal from distance and tries for another. This time he sends it over the top though.

Richarlison is a really exciting winger and he showed a couple of superb bits of skill to tee himself up for a strike at goal which was blocked by Jack Stephens.

But he also doesn't mind a bit of the amateur dramatics when he feels he's been fouled. We've seen a couple of exaggerated rolls after challenges by Cedric, neither given as fouls, and it seems there's just a bit of needle developing between the pair of them.

And that is nearly two for Watford. Richarlison, who has looked lively coming in from the left wing, shoots at goal, it is deflected and hits the side netting.

    Abdoulaye Doucoure (Watford)

It has been pretty poor so far, but that is a great strike to liven things up.

Jose Holebas' long throw from the left flank causes problems and Southampton's Jack Stephens can only partially clear the ball.

It falls to Abdoulaye Doucoure outside the area, he takes a touch, gets a bit lucky with a ricochet off a Saints player but then produces a sweet, low half-volley from 25 yards out to beat Fraser Forster.

David Ljunggren: Southampton are toothless and slow - they look as bad now as they did last season under Puel.

    Southampton 0-0 Watford

Southampton's performance so far has just been summed up by a woefully overhit pass from Oriol Romeu. He was aiming for Manolo Gabbiadini but the striker can just watch on helplessly as the ball races away for a goal-kick.

    Southampton 0-0 Watford

I could tell you this game has been a classic. But I would be lying.

Southampton have not offered anything as an attacking force yet. They have failed to score in three of their four games in all competitions so far this season.

    Southampton 0-0 Watford

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster shows some nifty footwork to deceive Andre Gray as the Watford striker chased down a backpass. But Forster is the calmest man in St Mary's, a drop of the shoulder to fool the striker and a launch upfield to safety.

I'm liking the look of Watford so far at the St. Mary's Stadium - 4-2-3-1 with Richarlison and Carrillo offering a threat from the flanks, Andre Gray bustling around to keep the centre-backs busy and Nathaniel Chalobah looking very composed in central midfield.

  18. CLOSE!published at 22 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Watford

Jose Holebas and Nathaniel Chalobah are lurking over the free-kick and in the end Holebas takes it, 25 yards out.

He curls it over the wall and just past the post, the closest either side has come so far.

This could be dangerous. Southampton's Sofiane Boufal clatters into Kiko Femenia and Watford have a free-kick, central, 25 yards out. Danger times for the hosts.
