    Republic of Ireland 1-2 Denmark

There a few Republic of Ireland fans gallantly trying to keep the songs going in the stands but there's stunned silence from large sections of the crowd.

Martin O'Neill has sent a couple of his players to warm up. Boom or bust for the hosts now?

    Christian Eriksen

From delight to despair in a matter of minutes for the hosts.

One of the few times the Republic of Ireland neglect to pick up Christian Eriksen they are punished as Stephen Ward loses the ball and Denmark pounce quickly, Nicolai Jorgensen feeding a pass to the unmarked Eriksen on the edge of the area and he drives the ball into the net via the underside of the bar.

The Republic of Ireland now need to find at least two goals.

    Cyrus Christie OG

    So unfortunate!

Great work by Pione Sisto as he works some space on the left before crossing low into a packed area. Andreas Christensen sticks out a boot and pokes the ball onto the post and the unlucky Cyrus Christie can do nothing as the rebound bounces off his thigh and into the net.

Advantage Denmark. As things stand it is they who go through on away goals. The hosts must score.

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Denmark

We've not seen too much from Christian Eriksen. Whenever he has got the ball he's had three or four players straight on him.

The hosts are doing a good job of keeping the Denmark creator quiet.

  7. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Denmark

Another chance for the Republic of Ireland as James McClean is released. He breaks into the area but puts his effort just wide of the far post.

This is too much for some of the home fans, who are already shedding a few tears as another opportunity to put one foot on the plane to Russia goes begging.

Will they come back to haunt them? One goal for the visitors changes the whole complexion of the game.

  8. CLOSE!published at 21 mins

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Denmark

    Oh, so close!

It's almost a second for the Republic of Ireland as Cyrus Christie delivers an excellent cross from the right, inch perfect for Daryl Murphy and he stabs a volley goalwards. Half the stadium thinks it is in the back of the net, but agonisingly it's into the sidenetting.

    Better from the hosts now.

The pressure valve is released on the hosts' defence as James McClean works the ball to Daryl Murphy inside the Denmark area. He gets the ball stuck under his feet and is quickly crowded out before he can shoot.

    And Darren Randolph again!

This time it is Pione Sisto who is left unmarked inside the area and he smashes an effort towards the near post where Randolph gets across to push the ball behind.

A dangerous game the Republic of Ireland are playing at the moment.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 17 mins

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Denmark

    Superb save!

Darren Randolph, the hero of the first leg, produces an excellent one-handed save to push behind William Kvist's strike through a crowd of players.

Andreas Christensen was given far too much space in the build up to that chance.

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Denmark

Uh oh. This could be a long 75 minutes for the hosts.

They are deep with nine men behind the ball as Denmark come forward. A cross towards the far past is nodded down into space and a miscommunication sees two Republic of Ireland players go for it but the ball is eventually cleared.

Cyrus Christie keeps the ball in play but then inexplicably runs back towards his own area while under pressure from Jens Larsen. Shane Duffy steams in to give the ball the big boot and clear the danger.

  16. CLOSE!published at 10 mins

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Denmark

Jan Larsen has a golden opportunity to at least test Darren Randolph. The Danish striker gets behind the Republic of Ireland defence to meet a ball over the top. He opts to sidefoot an effort on goal when a header might have been the better option. The outcome is he hits the sidenetting.

    Republic of Ireland 1-0 Denmark

I fully expected a cagey start - I'd bet most people did - and it will be interesting to see what the Republic of Ireland do now. Protect the lead or go for a second?

The goal means we definitely won't get extra time. If Denmark score then it will be they who go through on away goals.

    Long way to go yet.

    Shane Duffy

    THE HOSTS ARE AHEAD!

Wow! What a start for the Republic of Ireland. Daryl Murphy wins a free-kick on halfway. Robbie Brady hits it long and into the area, Denmark fail to clear and as Kasper Schmeichel races off his line Shane Duffy is there to nod over the Leicester goalkeeper.

The noise is incredible. Perfect start for Martin O'Neill's side.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Awkward header by David Meyler from a Denmark free-kick. He has no idea where it is going as it bounces off the back of his head. He turns quickly, fearing the ball is going towards his own goal. It is, but Darren Randolph has it covered.
