More on that planned tribute to Graham Taylor. Fans have been encouraged to bring a scarf to today's game and to hold it aloft as the players make their way onto the pitch.

Taylor - the club's greatest ever manager - died last year at the age of 72.

In his time as Hornets manager he led the club from the Fourth Division to runners-up in the old First Division in five years, and to the 1984 FA Cup final.

It's sure to be an emotional moment.....

Saints need to do something to stop their slide; they are only above the relegation zone on goal difference, and a draw would probably be a decent result for them. They really need a win, though.

These two sides share the unwanted distinction of being the Premier League's bottom two in the form table.

Watford come into the weekend having lost six of their past seven Premier League games; Southampton haven't won any of their past nine.

The Hornets, whose season began so optimistically, are now in danger of enduring one of struggle.

Though they begin the weekend in the top half of the table, another defeat may well change the dynamics of their situation considerably, particularly against a team who are only above the drop zone on goal difference.

  6. Marco Silva on Graham Taylorpublished at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    Watford v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of the passing of Graham Taylor.

He managed Watford across two spells totaling 15 years and was also chairman from 2009 to 2012.

Fans are planning to pay tribute to the great man before kick-off - more on that later.

The club's current manager, Marco Silva, says today is likely to be an emotional occasion.

"It's a really important day for the club, for us, for the fans and for his family as well," Hornets boss Silva said.

"What he achieved at this club was amazing. He built the club with Sir Elton John and he is really important for us as a club.

"Each club I'm working at I like to understand the story of the club, what happened in the past and to respect the story and respect important persons in the club's history."

Hello and welcome to live coverage of Watford v Southampton.

The two sides meet at Vicarage Road with both in need of a win.

Watford's form has tailed off drastically since Marco Silva was linked with the Everton job and Saints are hovering above the relegation zone on goal difference heading into this one.

It's nine Premier League games without a win for Mauricio Pellegrino but he's confident his players know what is at stake in the coming weeks.

"Obviously we are conscious of this situation but I have got a good feeling because I have got good players," said Pellegrino.

"My players are conscious we are in a position we have to change, on and off the pitch."
