It is extremely sad news for us and it will extremely sad news for everyone who knew Jimmy. He was such a friendly man.

He was the absolute epitome of a football man. A superb career with Blackpool Football Club, if they ever had a better servant I would be surprised. He was England captain and played for them at the 1962 World Cup where the feeling was that he was a good a right back as there was at time in the world of football.

I know Jimmy felt England should have won that World Cup and then four yeas later they did win the 1966 World Cup and Jimmy was part of the squad then and was probably deprived of a place in the team due to an injury he suffered in the run up to that particular World Cup.

A life in football and terribly sad news.

    Phil Jones: Diego Costa

    Stephen Flynn: Benteke?

    James Armstrong: Giroud

Adnan Choudhury: The British media really love to start pure rubbish it’s appalling

    Luciano Nocente: Please Take Dzeko

Sammi Twum-Andoh: Interestingly, I don't think they need any

Liam King: Why don’t they just recall Tammy Abraham?

Stew Pritchard: Don't need a striker... Just use the players they have.. Bring back the loans.. It's simple

Shaun: They don't need another striker who can only head. That's apparently what Morsta is only good at. They need a striker who can use his feet. @Aubameyang7, external

Not the face! - Ronaldo reels after a scrape

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo broke his dry spell in a superb performance on Sunday - but it wasn't his goalscoring that made headlines.

Coming off with an injury, he borrowed a mobile phone camera from his doctor - to check his face in the "mirror".

As commentators laughed, declaring they had "seen everything now", Ronaldo shook his head with displeasure.

"Ronaldo took his obsession with his image to new heights," Reuters sports news wrote after the match.

"The most Ronaldo moment ever, simply incredible," offered sports site Benchwarmers.

It seems that West Ham are eager to make a move in the January transfer market.

Football.London, external understands that David Moyes is keen to sign Belgian midfielder Leander Dendoncker and sent his assistant Stuart Pearce to scout the 22-year-old midfielder, who played as a centre half for Anderlecht away at Genk.

Dendoncker helped keep a clean sheet as his side won 1-0 thanks to Sofiane Hanni's 45th minute goal. The Hammers target played the full 90 minutes and picked up a booking.

Chelsea continue to be linked with target men.

They have inquired about Roma's Edin Dzeko, 31, West Ham's Andy Carroll, 29, and Stoke's Peter Crouch, 36.

The latest link is Burnley forward Ashley Barnes.

But after they beat Brighton 4-0 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday with goals from Willian, Edden Hazard (2) and Victor Moses, they didn't seem short of firepower.

Hazard isn't convinced they actually need a new centre forward.

"I think we're happy with the team we have. It depends how you want to play," he told the Evening Standard., external

"We have two very good strikers in Alvaro (Morata) and Michy (Batshuayi). If they are not ready to play I can play striker, so I don't think we need [another one].

"Football is simple - keep the ball on the ground and try [to play] like we did [against Brighton].

    What do you think?

    - Do they need a target man?

    - Is there a candidate they should be looking at?

  20. Sanchez to....Liverpool?! (For an hour or so anyway)published at 09:38 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2018

    Edging closer

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

The final bits of red tape now have to be done on the deals that will see Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap clubs and join Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.

Both players need to alter their work permits that would allow them to play for both clubs.

This is likely to be done at a passport office, which, in Sanchez’s case may involve a trip to Liverpool, which is the nearest one to Manchester.
