  3. 'Unusual and weird situations'published at 00:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2018

    Everton

Everton manager Sam Allardyce believes interest in five first-team squad players risked impacting his sides' display in their 2-1 win over Leicester.

The Toffees allowed Ademola Lookman to leave for RB Leipzig on loan but Davy Klaassen's move to Napoli fell through.

"Five of our players in the squad, agents had rung up and asked if they could go out on loan," said Allardyce in his post-match news conference.

"It has not affected the result, I'm glad to say, but it could have easily have done that. I've spent all day trying to fend off people who are trying to take my players."

On Lookman, whom Allardyce said on Monday would not be leaving in this window, he added: "It is one of the most unusual situations I've been in where we have got some deals for him but he was adamant he chose Germany. "We tried to persuade him not to because I think it is a big challenge for his development. His stubbornness meant he got his own way.

"I hope he proves us all wrong."

Regarding Klaassen he added: "I got the weirdest situation. A contract he has with a sporting company is one of the reasons why it failed. "We are disappointed but he should be far more disappointed than us that he is not playing for Napoli. "I don't know why they couldn't get over the hurdles."

  4. 'Riyad to smile at Foxes'published at 00:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2018

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Claude Puel has promised to help Riyad Mahrez come back "with a smile" after his potential deadline-day move to Manchester City failedto materialise.

Leicester proposed a player-plus-cash deal, but Manchester City were not willing to spend more than £60m.

"Of course I have all confidence about the owner to take a good decision about Riyad for the future and after we will see with Riyad when he can come back with us," said Puel.

"All the players and staff will help him to come back with a smile and to enjoy his football. "Players know it will be difficult sometimes for Riyad. We have a fantastic group, a fantastic squad, all the players have a fantastic relationship. All the players will give their best for Riyad."

Ian Wright isn't convinced by Newcastle's January business, similar to many Newcastle fans going by the GIFs we've been receiving!

I think Rafael Benitez is the best thing they've got and they'll do very well to keep him. Kenedy looks fantastic, but Slimani? I'm not sure he'll be enough to keep them up.

    Southampton

Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino is not overly happy.

Last week the club may have made a record signing in spending over £19m on Guido Carrillo but Spartak Moscow managed to hold Saints off landing winger Quincy Promes.

Asked if he was surprised they had not recruited further players after selling Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool for £75m at the start of the transfer window, Pellegrino said: "I think so but we were a little bit unlucky.

"Some players were really close, and at the end the other part of the negotiation say 'No'. When you have to bring important players, the other club needs time to move and replace him. Little by little it is getting worse and bringing players in is not easy."
