  1. Everton's spending 'rubbish'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    Alex Bruce
Wigan defender on BBC Radio 5 live

The recruitment in the summer was a load of rubbish, let's be honest. They spent masses of money and didn't improve the team.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, for example, a really, really good play but £45m? I'm not so sure.

There's an enormous "Gwladys Street 1938-2018' banner being passed round by home fans as the players start to line up in the tunnel.

A huge 90 minutes coming up for Everton.

  3. Brighton wheel out the "bouncers"published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    Brighton & Hove Albion

    Everton beware!

Brighton are wheeling out their "bouncers" at Goodison.

"Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy played like two bouncers with strict instructions not to let anyone into the nightclub," wrote former Tottenham forward Garth Crooks in his team of the week after Brighton's 2-1 win over Arsenal last week.

"Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang crept past these two bruisers briefly - only to be discovered and promptly thrown out."

The question is: Will Dunk and Duffy rough up Everton's three-man forward line of Cenk Tosun, Yannick Bolasie and Theo Walcott?

  4. 'Natives are restless'published at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    Steve Bower
Match of the Day commentator at Goodison Park

The mood of these two clubs heading into this one is contrasting. Brighton are unbeaten in seven league and cup games, and have 34 points on the board.

Meanwhile, a run of two wins from 11 top-flight matches has well and truly ended Sam Allardyce's honeymoon period on Merseyside.

The Everton boss will be relieved to be back at Goodison Park, where the Blues have only lost one of their last nine, for what he calls their "bread and butter"., external

He will be more than aware of the questions many have asked of his team and that the natives are more than restless and will want a positive reaction.

  5. Early start for Seagullspublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton fans were up with the lark to get to Goodison in time for kick-off.

They've turned up in numbers despite a 540-mile round trip.

The last time they were at Everton Musical Youth's "Pass the Dutchie" was top of the UK singles charts.

That's a long, long, long, time ago.

Who thought when the fixtures came out last summer that Everton would be below newly-promoted Brighton in the table with nine games remaining?

Everton spent £150m in the summer, the fifth highest amount in Europe.

Yet there is still a danger they could end the season in a relegation scrap unless they start winning.

This is Brighton's first visit to Goodison since 1982 and they arrive on Merseyside in good form.

The Seagulls are unbeaten in seven but they're without an away win in the league since 4 November.
