    West Ham 2-0 Southampton

Another pass from Southampton and yep, you guessed it, it is horribly off target. Mark Noble and Chiekhou Kouyate are dominating the midfield.

Mario Lemina now hits one out of play for the Saints. He has a dazed look on his face. He looks punch drunk and I'm not surprised.

    West Ham 2-0 Southampton

This has been shocking from Southampton so far. Another pass goes astray and straight through to Joe Hart. Mark Hughes is prowling. I think his side may be getting a fair talking to at half-time.

Peter: I do not understand Southampton. They fire their manager because they are at risk of going down, only to hire somebody who was fired two weeks earlier for taking his team down. Why did they choose Hughes?

Oz: Why do managers like Mark Hughes and Tony Pulis keep getting work? If I performed as badly and as publicly as he does I would surely not be able to afford this internet connection!

    West Ham 2-0 Southampton

The stats say West Ham have had 56% of the possession so far but it feels like a whole lot more than that. They're passing the ball around nicely in defence before Joe Hart overhits a pass out to the right. Hart's poor form has been well-documented recently but he hasn't had to make a save so far.

  5. Postpublished at 27 mins

    West Ham 2-0 Southampton

Finally Southampton manage to string a few passes together but Nathan Redmond's cross from the left is cut out. Mark Hughes has his arms folded in the technical area. Not the start he was after in his first league game in charge.

I have spent four hours today at various West Ham fan protest events, where the main focus has been on the shortcomings of the current owners.

There is a visible security presence near to the directors' box to ensure there is no repeat of the scenes of three weeks ago against Burnley.

Not that it was likely anyway given the start West Ham have made today.

It is far too simplistic to say a winning team would end all the Hammers' troubles at the London Stadium.

    But it would definitely help.

Howepundit: Look's like Mark Hughes is trying to finish what he couldn't finish at Stoke, 2 goals down already?

James: Crowd trouble as a catalyst for escaping relegation?

    West Ham 2-0 Southampton

Southampton need to get themselves sorted and quick. West Ham are running them ragged. Charlie Austin and Manolo Gabbiadini have hardly had a touch up front. Mark Hughes side have another corner to defend now.

What goes around comes around. When West Ham played at Stoke, Arnautovic had an excellent game.

But Mark Hughes went out of his way to abuse Arnautovic, and he clearly didn't forget it.

    West Ham 2-0 Southampton

This is such a far cry from last time out at London Stadium. They Hammers fans are roaring their side on and can't help but be enthused by this start from their side.

There's a slight worry for the hosts with Marko Arnautovic down on the ground feeling his calf but it looks like he'll be able to continue.

  11. 'Absolutely brilliant first 20'published at 15:20 British Summer Time 31 March 2018

    West Ham 2-0 Southampton

    Pat Nevin

West Ham have been absolutely brilliant in the first 20 minutes. They have won every tackle and been right at it from the start.

The Southampton midfield has been missing.

  12. 'Bright start for West Ham'published at 15:20 British Summer Time 31 March 2018

    West Ham 2-0 Southampton

    Garth Crooks

West Ham have started really brightly, pressing quickly, fans see players working hard they get on your side. It is just the start they needed. They now need to calm down, and control the ball and try to build on this.

    Marko Arnautovic

Now they've got a second! Who saw this coming? In just over 15 minutes West Ham are in dreamland.

Marko Arnautovic meets a brilliant cross from Joao Mario from the right, six-yards out. His first effort with his head is saved by Alex McCarthy but the Austrian bundles in the rebound.

Arnautovic's celebration is a mix of joy but also frustration which seems to be aimed in the direction of Saints manager Mark Hughes who managed Arnautovic at Stoke of course.

Huge chance for West Ham! They should be 2-0 up. Marko Arnautovic is fed in down the left side of the box but his curling shot goes just wide of the right-hand post.

  15. 'Fantastic finish'published at 15:15 British Summer Time 31 March 2018

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Pat Nevin

    The finish was fantastic.

Moyes will be delighted but Mark Hughes will be furious.

Southampton had a corner that they made a a hash of and that led to them conceding a goal.

  16. goal

GOAL - West Ham 1-0 Southamptonpublished at 13 mins

    Joao Mario

Lift off at the London Stadium.

This is a really, really good breakaway goal. Cheikhou Kouyate powers away with the ball from a Southampton set piece down the right. He covers about 40 yards before cutting the ball back to the edge of the penalty area. He picks out Joao Mario - on loan from Inter Milan - who takes a touch and smashes the ball into the top corner from 20 yards. Brilliant.

  17. Postpublished at 12 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Southampton

Southampton have hardly had a kick so far but here they come for the first time. Ryan Bertrand winds a soft free-kick on the left flank and the Saints are going to have a good chance to whip one into the mixer.

  18. Antonio downpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 31 March 2018

Oddly enough it looked like Michail Antonio was labouring the first time he had the ball and he has tried to put all his power into that shot.

He looks like he is in floods of tears.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 10 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Southampton

Michail Antonio is not going to be able to continue and is absolutely distraught. He pulls his shirt up over his face and almost has to be dragged from the field due to the disappointment.

Edimilson Fernandes is on in Antonio's place.

  20. Postpublished at 8 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Southampton

Another player down and this one looks more serious. West Ham's Michail Antonio is laid flat on his back on the turf and seems to have a problem with his left leg, maybe his hamstring. West Ham have a lengthy injury list already. They don't want to lose Antonio.

Replays seem to suggest he has pulled when when taking a shot from distance a couple of moments ago. Not good.
