Summary

  • Leicester unbeaten in six Premier League home games

  • Newcastle could end day 10 points clear of relegation zone

  1. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

Early chance for Newcastle, after the aforementioned Choudhury clatters Kenedy.

It's left of centre, just outside the penalty area and Dwight Gayle is shaping for a shot on goal...

Oof! Close, but just over the crossbar of Kasper Schmeichel.

  2. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:02

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

We are ready to get going again at King Power.

Hamza Choudhury replaced Vicente Iborra for Leicester just before the break, but there are no further changes for either side at the break.

  3. Don't miss Match of the Day laterpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

    BBC One

Match of the Day is on at 22:30 GMT on BBC One later; the programme is on until 23:55.

How high up the running order will this one be on the basis of that first 45 minutes?

  4. 'Lucky escape for Newcastle'published at 15:50 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

I think it is a penalty for the foul on Riyad Mahrez, I think maybe the angle Paul Dummett comes in from when he makes the tackle just blindsides the referee. That must be the only explanation as to why he hasn't given it. They have gotten away with one there.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:47

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

Jonjo Shelvey's strike separates the teams at the break, but Riyad Mahrez will feel he should have had a penalty.

  6. Postpublished at 45 mins +1

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

The home side looking for parity before the break as Florian Lejeune concedes a corner kick.

Riyad Mahrez is tasked with taking it, but Newcastle clear.

  7. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

Two added minutes to come at the King Power.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 41 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

Vicente Iborra has taken a knock and is unable to continue.

  9. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 38 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

    Blimey.

There's an enormous penalty appeal for Leicester as Riyad Mahrez is brought down in the box by a clunky looking Paul Dummett challenge.

The home side and their supporters look mystified as nothing is given.

...and if it's not a penalty, surely we should have seen a card for simulation?

  11. 'Touch of class from Shelvey'published at 15:37 British Summer Time 7 April 2018

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on Final Score

I think Kasper Schmeichel will be a bit cross with his defenders, the shot from Jonjo Shelvey takes a nick off Ben Chilwell as it goes in.

Shelvey shows a touch of class, looks like he is going to strike it with his laces, chops the ball, takes out two Leicester City defenders and gives himself all the time in the world to place it in the corner.

  12. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

The home side are still yet to force Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka into a save.

But they've at least had a sight of the Slovakian's goal now as Fousseni Diabate ghosts into the gap before seeing his shot deflect wide from 20 yards.

    The corner comes to nothing.

  13. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 30 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

Penalty claim for the Foxes as Jamie Vardy tries to keep the ball in play, and in doing so, is struck in what I'll simply refer to as a delicate area of his anatomy by Mo Diame.

Nothing given, though, and after a breather Vardy is back on his feet.

  14. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

Newcastle look to be in again with Dwight Gayle, forcing Kasper Schmeichel out to clear. Gayle appeared to be onside but up goes the flag.

  15. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

It’s all a little pedestrian going forward for Leicester. No zip, no real spark and no reaction - yet - to going behind.

  16. YELLOW CARDS - Harry Maguire and Jamaal Lascellespublished at 22 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Newcastle

That goal has put Newcastle 10th in the table as it stands.

Harry Maguire then hands off Dwight Gayle, an arm to the face, and the England man might be in a bit of bother here... it's a yellow card.

Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles wasn't happy with that decision, and referee Stuart Attwell shows him a yellow as well.

GOAL - Leicester 0-1 Newcastlepublished at 18 mins

    Jonjo Shelvey

Newcastle United have been far the better side in this opening period, and now they have a goal to show for it.

Ayoze Perez gets down the left and cuts the ball back for Jonjo Shelvey in acres of space centrally. He feigns a shot from just outside the area and then sends the ball into the bottom right corner, via a deflection off Leicester's Ben Chilwell.

  18. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Leicester 0-0 Newcastle

A first real attack for Leicester and they force a corner as Paul Dummett withstands pressure from Riyad Mahrez.

Marc Albrighton's free-kick is curled in from the right and Harry Maguire tries to meet it but can only flick it on...

Ben Chilwell then curls a cross in from the left, which captain Wes Morgan heads well wide.

  19. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Leicester 0-0 Newcastle

Leicester City boss Claude Puel said in the week that he felt Newcastle were safe from relegation, and warned the visitors would play with freedom at the King Power.

Early days, but the Magpies are playing with greater intensity to this point.

In their latest attack a decent pass into the box by Paul Dummett is cut out by Harry Maguire with Dwight Gayle lurking.

  20. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Leicester 0-0 Newcastle

Ayoze Perez makes a good break down the left for the Magpies but Wes Morgan gets back and does enough to take the ball away him.

Newcastle seeing plenty of the ball in the early stages with Kenedy, Perez & Dwight Gayle linking up well.
