    Cristhian Stuani

    Bullet header.

Dani Carvajal gives a needless free-kick away down the left and Girona take advantage in spectacular fashion.

I praised the delivery of Johan Mojica earlier, but it is Alex Granell with a cross into the box this time and former Boro striker Cristhian Stuani rockets a header into the net.

It was past Keylor Navas in a flash.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Girona

Sloppy from Real Madrid at the back, giving the ball away and the speedy Cristian Portu is on to it.

He weaves past a couple of challenges but at the vital moment, loses control of the ball and prods an effort wide.

Girona winger Johan Mojica has a lovely cross on him.

The Colombian plays in another gorgeous ball into the box which Marcelo has to head away, but the visitors cannot make anything of the corner.

  5. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 23 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Girona

Lucaz Vazquez should have netted one earlier and attempts one from outside the box which is straight at Yassine Bounou.

The Real Madrid forward does then convert one into the net from Toni Kroos's disguised throughball, but is flagged offside.

Wrongly flagged offside, Vazquez was on.

  6. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Girona

Striker Karim Benzema has not had the best of seasons for Real Madrid, but still looks full of confidence.

The Frenchman shows good footwork in the box, but his dangerous low cross is cleared away from inside six yard box.

Marcos Asensio then has a pop from outside the box, but it is easy for goalkeeper Yassine Bounou to gather.

  7. CLOSE!published at 16 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Girona

Plenty of goalmouth action at the Bernabeu and Cristiano Ronaldo almost gets his second of the night for Real Madrid.

The Ballon d'Or holder cuts in from the left onto his right foot, but flashes a shot across the face of goal and wide.

Girona finding it very difficult to deal with the former Manchester United man.

  8. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Girona

Girona need to take their chances when they fall to them, they have missed a couple now already.

Johan Mojica works an opening down the left and sends in a glorious cross to the back post for little Cristian Portu, who leaps and heads an effort inches wide of goal.

    Cristiano Ronaldo

    Booooom.

    Lovely, lovely goal.

Real Madrid play a short corner, with Toni Kroos and Marcelo working the training ground routine.

The German midfielder sees the movement of Cristiano Ronaldo, who burst towards the penalty spot, and slots in a first-time finish into the far side of the net.

    A crisp finish, well-taken.

Decent from Girona from their first foray forward.

Borja Garcia cuts in from the left and lashes an effort towards the far post, which Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has to push to safety.

  11. CLOSE!published at 8 mins

    Real Madrid 0-0 Girona

Real Madrid should be ahead, but Lucas Vazquez has missed a sitter.

The Girona defenders are at panic stations at the back, failing to clear the ball and Karim Benzema plays in Vazquez through on goal.

The Real Madrid forward can take his pick by going left or right, but strikes a weak effort straight at goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

    Poor effort.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 5 mins

Cristiano Ronaldo overrules Marco Asensio and strikes the free-kick himself towards the top corner, but Girona goalkeeper Yassine Bounou stretches out a right hand to tip the ball away.

A chance from a great position for Real Madrid.

It's a balmy 9C in Madrid, but plenty of players wearing black gloves.
